I am proud of my father, Rod Cannon of Zolfo Springs, FL. He was chosen by our Congressional Rep. Tom Rooney (R, FL-17) to be the guest chaplain for the day. His prayer and Mr. Rooney’s remarks are now part of permanent congressional record in the Library of Congress. In addition to this honor, the family was invited into the Speaker of the House’s office for a photo with Mr. Rooney and Speaker Boehner. We were also blessed with a private tour of the Capitol into rooms not available to the public, including the Speaker’s private balcony. My dad is the son of a former COG pastor and state youth director (C.G.Cannon). I post this because he won’t do it for himself, and I am truly proud of the ministry he does in his small rural community. Plus, our government needs as much prayer as they can get. Yes, this is what I was taught under his ministry at Lee, but that was in 1990. It is also in redemption accomplished and applied.
Dr. Bowdle was a great man and a wonderful teacher. He was Reformed in his theological perspective. While I did not and do not share his perspective on the issue, I admire him as a great and honorable man. I enrolled and several of his classes and am the better for his influence in my life. It is possible to disagree without being disagreeable.
Bowdle falsely states that “sanctification is vitally related to justification and regeneration which precedes it.” (This indicates his attempt to get past the editors of the COG Evangel.) He has to say sanctification is subsequent to justification and regeneration in order to appease the denomination. I assume this has to be an intentional effort on his part.
How can sanctification be subsequent to justification and regeneration and yet be “vitally related”? Clearly this is an either or statement. Either it is subsequent and NOT vitally related or it is vitally related and is simultaneous with justification and regeneration, which is a reformed/Calvinist view.
YOU CAN’T BE WESLEYAN AND REFORMED/CALVINIST AT THE SAME TIME.
You can’t be Baptist and Wesleyan – you can’t be Assembly of God and Church of God at the same time as many think. You have to dump one for the other!!
