David Gosnell is going, but I do know he wasn’t the one the state council nick feel this is who the Lord wants. This is not an indictment on David Gosnell, I don’t know him but have heard good things. My friends in Indiana have shared their state is in a mess in many areas. they have pastored in that state for many years and have never seen it in this bad of shape.
I’m not saying they don’t pray. Two members of the EC came to indiana, met with the state council, and had them write in a piece of paper who they wanted and the state council was all in agreement. I know that the committee will not allow the precedent to be set for who a state wants, but the men in this council were asked who they wanted and asked to write that on a piece of paper. Why ask if you’re not going to follow through with it? It’s apparent that some states do have the right to say who they want and who they don’t want, Alabama just did that with Overseer Brewer. So does Alabama have more of a right than Indiana? I think not.
I definitely do not have a dog in this fight, as is said. But I really do think a state council’s opinion should be considered HEAVILY! But no, we definitely haven’t gotten there yet. ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
Respect is earned. It’s not something that can just be demanded. When people demand respect, I always want to know why it is they aren’t willing to earn it.
I don’t have to respect this decision if I don’t know why it was made in direct opposition to the state council. I don’t have to disrespect it either, but I sure am not going to respect it just because someone tells What’s done is done and it must be respected…. especially from someone posting under a pen name who just may have a vested interest in us respecting the decision without question.
I say that state council learned how the rest of us feel at pastor appointment time – when we vote – and someone else gets the job.Welcome to the party pals!Remember this feeling when you get to be an overseer________________
Our overseer came to me and said I was praying and the Lord said ‘you should be the next State Youth Director at the General Assembly. I was honored, but a month later this overseer left for bigger and better things. The new overseer arrived and within 2 months, he called me and said the Lord has spoken to my heart that you should be the next State Youth Director. I said did you talk to the previous overseer because he told me the same exact thing. He said No – I haven’t talked to him about this at all. Since the Lord had now spoken to two overseers and I had never asked anyone for the position and had never even considered it, I thought sure this was a God-thing. I wasn’t even on the youth board! The new overseer called Cleveland and spoke to the General Youth and CE Director. He told him what had transpired and at the upcoming General Assembly was going to appoint me. He was quickly told No. He’s not in the system and we cannot make room for him. It all ended there.
There is always a problem when a decision must be made for convenience sake. it does happen.I agree that maybe in an appointment like stated in this post, the local board may not be able to see the forest for the trees and an outside decision is needed. That does happen. I have been guilty of praying with a preconceived answer and assumed since I did not feel a NO, I must be right in my notion.Since I didn’t make it as a minister in the COG, I feel much better in the pew. I do hope the decision made, is the best. BUT ‘ACCEPTING’ some decisions just because it is the rule of the past is dangerous. ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
I will say this. Years ago I NEVER heard a decision of the ‘Chain of Command’ questioned. Our church was sorta like the Military, What ever the CO says is law and gospel.I NEVER had a problem with my leaders. They never ‘lied’ to me nor mistreated me in any way, so I had no kick with the ‘system’.What I read now, and from ministers in the COG I talk to, not everyone is satisfied with things as they were. (note: Many older preachers talk to me as if I was still in the ministry and will take me into confidence, so at times I am a sounding board. wise on their part? I do not know but I do appreciate their frankness.) ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
The fact is that we will never know what all goes into the EC making the decisions they make with the knowledge they have. I am certain that even though the state council did not get the new AB they wanted, they will work with the new AB.
I have been told the same, and as stated in my original post I did not want this to be a heated debate. My friends in Indiana and a couple on the state council have stated they will work with the new overseer and pray the state will move forward. They made their recommendation known and it did not happen. There were no secret meetings, no hate mail, and no reveling up the state for any man, they just want a move of God.
