Listened in to some camp meeting preaching today and realized that camp meeting attenders like their sermons delivered piping hot. One evangelist said, “think Mexican food served on a hot iron skillet.. think sizzling!” it’s been that way as long as I can remember. It doesn’t seem to matter about the subject so much as the delivery. As Marshall Mc Cullen might have said; it’s the massage and not the message.
Peter A Vandever wants to know what you mean by “evangelist”?
which Campmeeting were you listening?
I had a good friend at Lee who was preparing to preach his very first sermon at a small COG on the outskirts of Cleveland. The pastor told him not to worry just preach it loud. He told him to say “mashed potatoes and gravy” or just anything as long as you preached it loud. The people would shout as long as the preacher yelled loud enough!
