Did you know that Rev. Finis J. Dake, a well-known minister in the AoG who tried to get Zion City, IL founded by Rev. John Alexander Dowie to become a part of the AoG but was unable to do so, joined the CoG and was an ordained minister with the CoG in the 1940s? Dake was known as the “Walking Bible.” He created DAKES BIBLE with a publishing house in Lawrenceville, GA.

Brother Dale was a dear friend to my family. The last time I was with Him was at my granddad’s 80th birthday celebration. He was truly a scholar of the Word.
I was trying to understand the theology of Jimmy Swaggart when I worked for him at his bible college. I thought he was true blue AoG, but soon discovered that he really was not. What I found out was Swaggart was more so into the Dake theology so in order to get a grasp of Swaggart’s theology, a student presented me with a Dake Bible. Whenever a person works for another ministry, he should always give his full support to that ministry. I certainly would not want to say anything in my teaching against the Swaggart ministry while I was employed by him as a professor. Thus my reason to get a full understanding of Swaggart’s theology.
John Alexander Dowie was a powerful Pentecostal evangelist with a tremendous healing ministry in the late 1800s. Thousands came to his meetings. He founded Zion City, IL and created a great ministry there. Dake was impacted by Zion City. Dake was a CoG minister in the mid 1940s and along with DC Barnes, tried to argue the case for progressive sanctification at BTS. Vep Ellis and several others opposed Barnes and Dake.
I knew Brother Dake very well from Lawrenceville, Ga. We grew up in NE Metro Atlanta and had the pleasure of getting to know him. He seemed like he was everywhere back then, and I guess he was.
I’ve never read the Dakes bible. How is it?
Another great minister who fell. If the church was as harsh with sin in the church as it is about sin outside the church maybe we’d have a better reputation.

But I’m sure you’re not afraid to preach against the sins in the world.
No John Conger, an eye-witness shared with me that Dake was truly repentant. Let’s don’t dig up the stones that were placed in the Jordan River. I am sure we have all made some mistake that we would be most ashamed for the public to discover. And if we start revealing other’s mistakes, it will come back on us. Once a sin is under the blood, God no longer sees it. Praise God!

So if a man molests children he can be restored but if he is caught in a homosexual act he can never preach again….official church of god policy now?
Paul lists terrible sins of his day including homosexuality. Then he speaks of the saints and states, “SUCH WERE SOME OF YOU.” If the CoG at Corinth did this, then so should the CoG today.
Dakes bible as well as swaggarts bible have been absolutely essential tools in my ministry . I love Dake and have some issues with the swaggarts , however expositors bible is amazing
I know there is some good stuff in the Dake’s Bible. I’ve never owned one or used it heavily, but I’ve purused it in a library before. But Dake made some pretty weird arguments, like the one about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each having a body, soul and spirit. He just argued how logical it was, but without any real support for the argument.
If a spirit has a body, soul and spirit, does the spirit of the spirit have a body, soul, and spirit?
Does anyone here preach on the sin in America and how Gods going to judge the nation?? Transgender, lbgt etc etc etc….does anyone remember Jesus talking about the depravity of the roman empire? Or did he talk about the sin in the church. Was peter wrong with ananais and sapphira? It’s a cowardly preacher that deals with sin outside the church but not within. People keep saying dake was repentant cause they heard it from someone else 3rd or 4th hand while all reports show him defiant. Believe what you want. This is why the church is in state that its in. Those that are without God judges, we are to judge those within. But don’t let scripture get in your way.
Dake had a gift and a bible study method that we could only dream of having . I bet none of us spent 100,000 hours on bible study . Especially since statistics say only 50% of preachers read their bible now . 8 out of 10’say they’ve never felt the presence or nearness of God because we ran him out . Average Christians pray less than 4 minutes a week. Until we have studied and prayed like Dake I don’t think we can look anywhere but up . Just saying .
John Conger, why do you say Dake was unrepentant?
Cause he said he was just being persecuted and maintained that while in jail. While he was writing his bible. Is there any record of him publicly repenting? Or saying anything in public that even gives that impression? I’ve never seen it. Other than people on here saying they heard 3rd or 4th hand. Look I was and am a big fan of his bible. I may not agree with everything but he deserves a lot of admiration. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of the church. We condemn the world but not saints who live in sin. Especially ministers. The church has it backwards from Jesus.
John Conger, Did you spend any time with Dake, or are you reading bits and pieces of his life from second-hand sources. If he did that sin and say those things, and you haven’t read about him repenting, that doesn’t mean he didn’t repent.
But I agree that most Pentecostal churches, including the COGs as far as I can tell, typically don’t deal with sin like the NT teaches in a lot of cases.
Read for yourself. He was defiant. HE WAS DEFIANT WHILE WRITING HIS BIBLE! hopefully he did repent and I really hope he did. I’m a fan of his bible. But the only account I public was not one of repentance. At least not that I can find.
John Conger it seems like a lot of churches ignore scripture when it comes to sin on the inside. When is the last time you heard of a Pentecostal church expelling someone and refusing to keep company with him for being in fornication, adultery, greed, etc. like I Corinthians 5 teaches? Many churches don’t and a little leaven then leavens the whole lump. We need to be confronting people in love and restoring them, rather than just ‘minding our own business’.
I agree. Confronting with love is the bible standard. WITH the intention of restoration. I believe even when there is excommunication it should be with the intent of restoration. I did it once and it worked. People today think love means ignoring and not offending.
