Did anyone watch the FAITH MATTERS videos sponsored by the CoG? If so, what is your observation of FAITH MATTERS regarding HOLINESS, the 7th article in the CoG DECLARATION OF FAITH as presented by the Church of God (Cleveland, TN) regarding a discussion between CoG General Overseer Mark Williams and Seminary Professor Steve Land?

I would say both embrace progressive sanctification from the new birth but neither will say it.
What concerned me was the fact the G.O. spoke of things that prevented membership, which he does I believe in a negative sense.
I love these. There is one of sanctification. I think it is a progressive work of the holy spirit.
Pat, But you see, that is the point. The CoG always preached that sanctification was NOT progressive. It was the AoG who preached that sanctification was progressive.
I was baptized with the Holy Ghost one time. Since then, I was never refilled because when I was baptized in the Holy Ghost and filled, He never left so there was no need to be refilled.
He never leaves or moves, but we do. I fail to believe this stand because of human frailty. Is that kind of like, ” once saved, always saved”. I don’t think there is anyone walking in shoe leather that has not had to seek his forgiveness during their life & have that refreshing. Sorry! We r still so much less than.
I think that holiness comes from our relationship with God (thru the Holy Spiriit). It has been be ongoing-not slacking!
Once you are saved, you love the Lord with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength. And you do this every day. At least I have now for many years. The Lord has kept me because i have never ceased to trust in Him.
Holiness only comes one way and that is from a sanctified life. If you are “being progressively sanctified” or not even sanctified at all, then you are unable to live a life of holiness. Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, AND HOLINESS WITHOUT WHICH NO MAN SHALL SEE THE LORD.” Seeing the Lord modifies HOLINESS and does not modify the word PEACE. I didn’t say it, God’s Word says it. Believe what you want, but I have chosen to believe the Holy Bible. That I one reason why I still preach sermons on HOLINESS and SANCTIFICATION and call people to the altar to get sanctified.
Melvin Harter, do you see a connection of water baptism to sanctification?
Definitely Charles Page
