BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we reaffirm our commitment to holiness as expressed in the “Resolution Relative to Principles of Holiness” adopted in 1960 and published in the Supplement to the Minutes of the International General Assembly.

Where can we get a copy of this “resolution relative to principles of Holiness”?

WHEREAS the year 2002 is the centennial anniversary of the Holiness Church at Camp Creek, which was organized on May 15, 1902, and which established the name Holiness Church as our name until we adopted the name Church of God in 1907, and which established the Church of God movement in the broader H…

  1. Look in the Minutes of the 1960 General Assembly. That Assembly was convened in Memphis, TN. It was at that Assembly I first saw my wife, Faye. I was thirteen years of age. Six years later she became my wife. Your question will be answered in that Minutes handbook. You might even find it archived online.

  2. There was a CoG tract “Resolution Relative to Principles of Holiness” and now you can’t find one!

I was studying Southern Baptist Beliefs and they had a tract Baptist Faith and Message which was an elaboration of their beliefs. I went to a large SBC church and searched through all the church tract racks and couldn’t find one. I went to the administrative pastor and ask him for one and he assured me they were in the racks. I told him of my attempts to find one and he went to the church office and couldn’t find one and by this time he was nervous (he knew me to be persistent) He went to the church supplies room and after a half hour search he found a few. He gave me two.

That is what the Church of God has become.

  3. I have a copy of the 1960 Minutes which contains that resolution. I also have a copy of the official statement from the Council of 12 at the time on dress and adornment as a more detailed explanation of the 1960 Resolution.

  4. Independent Holiness Churches no longer see the Church of God in the holiness movement. Instead, they view it as having become a part of the last day falling away.

  5. You can rest assured that the Council of 12’s official explanation of the 1960 Holiness Resolution as it relates to dress and adornment was not mentioned or reaffirmed in that 2002 reaffirmation.
