Wikipedia says the song was first sung in 1912, another site says it was 1913 in a barn where a Methodist church was meeting.At that time, the Methodists were the Holy Rollers of the day. When President Taft visited one of their massive Camp Meetings, his security rushed him out of the meeting when over 800 swooned to the ground.
