First, If ANY candidate gets the majority, I think there should not be any monkey-business at the convention, even if it is Donald Trump, we need to let the people decide if at all possible. However, if he does not get the majority, then the people have voted against him more than for him so a properly brokered convention could be a good thing. I'm not crazy about the idea of a brokered convention, but are there scenarios that you could support? I could NOT support any candidate outside of those that have ran during THIS cycle (such as Romney).I could not support any low-performers such as Bush, Christie or Carson (unless it was as running-mate)I think you have to let the delegates vote on the top 3. I was thinking top 4, but that might not give you a clear majority. Narrowing it down to the top 3 might give you a majority, and as long as its done fairly, you might not split the party.

If there is a brokered convention, whoever gets the nomination, if it isn't Trump, should choose from the presidential candidates who performed well. Personally, I think Rubio is a bad pick. I don't mind having a couple of Cubans in there, but Cruz-Rubio may be a bit too Cuban for the electorate, and Rubio took some digs at Cruz that may not go over too well in the election. Kasich has positioned himself well as a good VP pick for anyone by refusing to dig at any of them very much. In a brokered convention, IMO, the candidate will feel like he has less choice of choosing a VP. He'll probably have to accept a candidate to get the delegate votes

If the convention is brokered like that to keep Trump out, I wonder what would happen to Trump supporters. Would they support Cruz (or Kasich or whoever gets the nomination) for the most part? Would they refuse to vote, or support Hillary? You don't suppose Trump would go third party? I sure hope he keeps his word on that one. The people behind the scenes need to run the polls and do the math. There need to be some polls on whether Trump supporters will refuse to vote in the general election, too. If they have a good solid case for Cruz or Kasich to win in the general election and to do better than Trump, they should go forward with it. This is one of the problems with democracy, that it could lead to someone like Trump being nominated. I suspect there were some who thought that way about Andrew Jackson, too. He managed to get in there eventually, and we have the Democratic party now

Assuming what we're hearing is right, there are about equal parts of NeverTrump and OnlyTrump within the Republican voters so that's probably a wash either way.SO, the next place to look is the general election (the important one). Are there more NeverTrumps that would actually normally vote or OnlyTrumps that would normally vote. My belief is that the OnlyTrumps are largely low-percentage voters. Is there a poll on that? Can we count the Cruz, Rubio, Kasich, etc. votes as 'NeverTrump' votes? If those who support other candidates lean toward 'never Trump', then their votes are votes against Trump. If Trump doesn't get the majority of votes, a brokered convention that gives the nomination to someone besides Trump, following the agreed upon rules, is a fair thing to do, IMO. I hope someone, any of the ones still in the race, get the nomination besides Trump.
