There was an old story in Judaism about a so-called 'rabbi' who had students. One time the Jewish scholar was incensed to find his student hiding under his bed after he had just finished copulating with his wife. He asked him why he did it. His disciple responded that he was supposed to learn from his teacher in every area of his life, and he wanted to know if there was some aspect in this part of his life he needed to learn about.It might not have been a true story, and it may have been used to show the type of relationship they valued between teacher and disciple. I have read that on a certain feast day, Gamaliel used to go into the temple courts juggling fire as a part of the celebrations. I wonder if Paul learned how to do that, too

I didn't realize you were so prudish. You must consider some of the laws of Moses and stories in other parts of the Bible to be rather saucy, too. I thought you were calling the story about Gamaliel a fable.Btw, I didn't post that picture of the transexual swimming pool or the message about the Baby Ruth candy bar in the pool

I'm not sure what your point is. I don't consider myself particularly prudish, and I don't mind talking about sex in the right context. But the story about the student under the bed sounds like a bit of a joke to me. I don't see anything particularly relevant or instructive about it. It sounds like the kind of joke male seminary students would tell. And I just pointed out that I found it interesting that Acts allows one joke but not another, that's all.Whatever. It's not a big deal to me one way or the other.

It's not a joke. It's an old Jewish illustration about how close they expected the students to be with their instructors, who they called 'rabbis'. Maybe it was told as a true story. The point is that the student was to learn about every area of his life.My point was if this was the philosophy back then, maybe Paul learned to juggle fire from Gamaliel back then.In a lot of ways, Judaism was a party religion. God commanded the Israelites to partake of seven feasts, and certain other feasts were added, like Purim as we read in Esther

I just read about Gamaliel II juggling, eight torches in fact like we see in the picture about. At least that was the interpreters understanding of the Tamudic passage about it. So that would have been the wrong guy, unless learning to juggle was a skill taught and passed down through the patrilineal line across generations
