It is totally understood that some people have accredited degrees and some use titles from unaccredited institutions. We have posters who have done an excellent job raising the awareness that some who call themselves by titles they have not earned.I personally appreciate the effort that has gone into bringing this to our attention. Without a doubt it is the beat of their heart, and with pure motive, that this has been brought to our attention. And yes, it is troubling when people make claims to be Dr. so & so for instance, and it is a title they have never earned. Our own University, bestows the title of Dr. on those who are elected to top office in our church. It's indeed a great honor. But after years of seeing this done, I never did respect or appreciate the honored, any more than when there were on a first name basis with their fellow ministers. While receiving an Honorary Degree would certainly be a, it is in way some can show their respect and appreciation, in my opinion, it is totally egotistical and probably dishonorable to use it among those who have put in the time and effort to earn theirs. And, it may also be dishonest to give the impression that one has put in the effort to earn the degree. So, I do have sympathy with those who feel it is their duty to point out why it is important to have credentials one has earned. However, while it is completely in order to post about that subject and share one's thoughts about it, calling out names and pointing out individuals, is slightly over the line in my opinion.I now about being over the line. It was once necessary for me to ban myself for something I said that was out of line and over it at the same time. In this case, nobody is banned. I'm only referring to my conduct. As far as I know, we do not even know the last name of the Disciples. They were all on a first-name basis. That's how it is supposed to work in a Brotherhood, a family. For the most part, even the Lord, didn't go around requiring people to call Him King Of Kings. Most of the time, it seems he said something like Hello. My name is Jesus.Of course, that's just my opinion and I welcome you to share yours.Doyl
