I was listening to a song about the power of sin is broken....we sing it, we preach it......I recently saw a stat that 40 something percent of christian men have viewed pornography the past 30 days. It was on a program so I cannot give a link. I see many christians dealing with addictions such as food, porn as mentioned, unhealthy habits, doing questionable things with money, anger, .....these are just a few.....divorce as well..My question....if the power of sin is broken as we loudly proclaim in music and sermons, yet....why is it still have power over those who claim to follow Christ?

VERY GOOD question Caseylee. I asked a good friend that same question. He pastored a large church in NC and fell into the 'sex trap' and then lost his church and reputation. His replay was not a good one, but an excuse. His reply was, David, a man after God's own heart, failed.I simply said from my heart, Have you saved Israel by slaying a giant? That was not fair on my part, but he had climbed my case many times about smoking, saying he asked God to remove the desire and it was gone immediately, and he never wanted another cigarette. In my heart I wanted to say, but did not, Why didn't you ask God to take away the desire for a woman other than your wife?I am not sure there is an answer except every day, every hour to hold HIM close, and then I believe the song is correct. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

The power of sin is broken over our lives, however the sinful nature is still there. We take on a new nature, meaning that we have a greater propensity to love and honor God, but the flesh and sinful nature are still there warring for domination. Jesus said, If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. (Luke 9:23) The cross is an instrument of death. We are to put away our own desires and follow Him and we have the power to do that through the power of the Holy Spirit. It comes down to what are you feeding... the spirit or the flesh. Paul said in Galatians 6:8, For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
