When he was serving as General Overseer, or as Presiding Bishop as it is called today, I wrote some editorials disagreeing with a policy of the McGuire Administration. To my knowledge, I have always liked Dennis, but felt at the time that the particular policy was not a good one.I hope that as viewers look back over the years, they will find that in my writings and editorializing, I have attempted to be fair. Even if I have disagreed with someone previously, when I hear good things about them, I make an effort to share that too. At some time or another, all of us have made some not-so-stellar decisions. Or, is it just me?For example, when a former First Assistant General Overseer worked to unseat the General Overseer, I wrote some strong articles against it. In my opinion, when charges are brought by someone who will benefit much personally from the destruction of another, all who hear those charges should take that into consideration. I also researched and shared how some of the supposed charges were not accurate. However, to this day, I feel that First Assistant General Overseer was one of the great men I have met in a lifetime. Still do feel that way, but when a great man makes a mistake, it affects a lot of people. King David counting the people when told not to, is an example.Though I disagreed with one policy when Dennis McGuire was General Overseer, I was recently in Florida where Brother McGuire once pastored. Some people there are still singing his praises. They still remember him fondly after all these years and shared some good things about him.The conversation had not been about anyone in particular, butas we discussed people who had been a blessing to us, Brother McGuire's name came up. These are people who have absolutely nothing to gain politically in the COG; no office, position, money etc., from the good they were saying about Brother McGuire. One man in particular, told me that he had been out of church for nearly 10 years as a result of being hurt in his heart by someone at that church. However, he recalls how that when Dennis McGuire became pastor at (I believe it was Lake Wire), that Brother McGuire made a special effort to reach out to him.The man told me personally, I remember it was after 10pm on a Thursday night. For the first time in years, I was feeling a sense of conviction in my soul. I called Brother McGuire and he said, 'Where are you? I will come now to where you are.' Dennis did go to the man's house and after spending a good amount of time with him, prayed with the man and helped him restore his relationship with the Lord. That event has gone basically unheralded for all these years, but it is a jewel in the crown of Brother McGuire.Today, that man is still dedicated to the Lord and is active in a major way in his church. He is an incredibly successful businessman and is a blessing financially to his present church. When he talks about Brother Dennis McGuire, tears of appreciation form in his eyes. So, this is not something I heard from an unnamed source. I have stayed in this man's home. He and I stayed up late talking about the Lord. I saw the tears in his eyes. I heard the emotion in his voice as he talked about how grateful he is to the Lord for sending Dennis McGuire along to help restore him in his walk with Christ.Doyl

Thank you for taking the time to point out a flaw. Certainly the world is a better place because of those who can find the flaws in others . However, you are correct. After reading it again, it is let's say, a rather odd phrasing. It should have read, I have always liked Dennis. Still do.Doyl

I did say Brother McGuire would be a good one and that statement is correct. The editorial I wrote at the time, disagreed with one policy. In my opinion, Dennis McGuire is a good man. After hearing from some who he pastored in Florida, I have even more respect for him. Those testimonies about him came unsolicited from people who had been blessed by his ministry.Doyl
