Get out there and walk in the woods.This is a historic Novel, over 97% are true incidents and factual happenings..We met a fellow reading his Bible. In our talks he said he pastored a small Methodist Church in Knoxville he gave us his card and invited us. Later we were in Knoxville at Sunday worship time, in our 'hiking clothes' and decided to stop in. We only drove by. It must have been the largest church in Knoxville, and everyone was dressed up.. LOL (Not all preachers tell the truth, 'small church')If you are near the AT, walk in, talk to some of the hikers. WE met some wonderful folk in our nearly 2,000 miles on the trail. | It is not legal in all states, but it is done. Most hikers will not carry, mainly because of the weight. concerning weight some hikers even cut their tooth brush handle in half. LOLYou could carry a shotgun with no problem! LOLWE met ladies from 14-83hiking alone with nothing more than 'pepper spray'. The most danger we found was the mice and chipmunks eating into the packs, in Maine that happened even if you suspended them 10' up Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/ |

We ran into only one Ranger, he was armed and hiking a ten mile stretch in Georgia. We talked a little while and he said he did it about twice a week. We met another ranger at a trail head in NC. We had a Trooper stop us at one trail head to talk in NY.Only once felt the need of weapon and that was for a big buck who stood so I could count all 14 points in the Shenandoahs, before I 'ordered my wife' (Maybe suggested is a better word) to keep on walking toward him, he won't bother you. I am one tough dude! Deer are amazing, he seemed to jump six feet in the air, to the side and disappear. My girl is one tough chick! There have been some incidents on the AT, but you are safer on the trail than walking down the street in the average town. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/ |

| Got the book yesterday, finished reading it last night. I enjoyed reading it. It was my favorite Jerry and Sherry book. It reads like a trail journal--light, fun, informative, and inspiring.I don't know if the author intended it this way ( ), but Jerry turns out to be quite a hero, in my opinion, when near the end of the book he is encouraging Sherry to look at her accomplishments in a positive light. It is quite a tender passage that made me smile and really like the protagonist. |
