The General Overseer of the COG typically serves as the moderator of the General Council and General Assembly, but he does not have to. I would prefer to have our General Overseer speak to the issues rather than moderate. Especially when they are serving out their final term limit and cannot remain on the EC. The Overseer reaches that position not purely because of popularity but also because of the spiritual influence and respect they have accumulated throughout the course of their ministry by displaying wisdom and courage. I want our Oversee to cast vision and bring us together around that vision by speaking directly to the issues that we face and deliberate as part of the agenda. Instead, they are relegated to carrying out the will of the GA, which is not a bad thing but removes them leading and positions them as 'policing'.

Let me state that I do not intend for this post to put any pressure on Dr. Williams or future GO to do what I proposed. I have incredible respect for Dr. Williams and would not want a Facebook or Actscelerate thread to put him in a awkward position. Should he refrain from doing what I suggest and choose to serve as moderator I would trust his judgement and decision to do so and respect him all the more. My intent is to get a feel for how body - especially ordained bishops - would respond to him or any GO who exercised their right to appoint a moderator at the GA and leverage their influence by speaking directly to issues.

I didn't take it that way at all.I would just simply love to hear his voice and thoughts on these items as well as the state of the church and world in general. He is a very wise man. For that matter, I'd love to hear from many of our leaders. Discuss the issues freely before we cast votes.Maybe even a caucus of sorts where we could discuss things in smaller groups before jumping in to the Roberts Rules and voting. You could maybe do this stuff in state and regional meetings leading up to the GA. Not trying to hijack just think it is an interesting and good idea Patrick. Some may would consider it an abuse of GO position and power and that it would influence the vote but the flip side for me would be that as my/our GO we value and respect this person enough to lead our movement and we should value and respect this person's wisdom and understanding as well! I think that your idea shows honor and respect Proverbs 3:5-6; John 13:34-35; Acts 1:8
