This is a story still in progress. Some details are clear and some are not. That does not mean anything wrong is being done and there is no attempt here to insinuate that. However, something COG youth did through YWEA decades ago, is in the news again. At this writing, it is 9:18 PM EST, USA. In Manila, Philippines, it is already Tuesday morning August 23rd. In a few minutes, COG representatives there are scheduled to meet at the Manila Polo Club Coffee Shop www.bing.com/images/search?q=manila+philippines+polo+club&FORM=HDRSC2,to discuss possible finalization of what may be a $4.1 MILLION dollar transaction between the COG and “Word For The World,” WCCF. Their website is at: www.wordfortheworld.com.Several weeks ago, we received word that the COG Evangelism Center in Manila, was being put up for sale. Some voiced deep concern about the sale, saying the Center had been one of the most effective COG ministries in the area for years. According to the info we received, the Center was built with YWEA funds raised by COG young people throughout the world. If the sale of the property does, or has taken place, should those funds be returned to the COG Youth Department? As further information has come in, the story has changed to the COG giving WCCF $4.1 MILLION, presumably for a property transaction. A week ago, that transaction may have hit a snag, but with this morning meeting in Manila scheduled to happen, it may be back on track. COG Asian Representative Gerald Holloway had voiced concern that the other side was delaying a 60-day timetable that will come to completion on Tuesday, August 30. There had been an official “Memorandum Of Understanding,” but buyer representatives were seeking an extension. COG Reps have been unwilling to grant the extension. In meetings since then, COG Reps have been pushing to get final approval for the COG to provide “Irrevocable Payment Instruction.” That would supposedly open the way for authorization to issue a check to WWCF. The COG would then present a check payable to WWCF in U.S. Currency, or in equal Philippine currency, for $4.1 Million Dollars. This is possibly a very positive story, or not so positive depending on what is actually happening. Possibly the COG World Missions Department will issue a statement on their website providing further details about the transaction. If this is a positive move, and COG officials certainly seem to think it is, further info could allow COG folk around the world to [email protected] |
