Whenever a minister takes a very pro-alcohol stance from the pulpit, it should be a red-flag. It is often indicative of a bigger issue with him/her. I'm not saying the Bible condemns alcohol across the board. I'm speaking particularly of those who advocate it from a public platform. |

Wow, His daddy has more hair than he does!I have never heard him speak, but I do like his father, though naturally I disagree with him on many points |

I'm much more Reformed than a lot of my COG colleagues, but this is a disturbing trend among many of the younger leaders of the movement. They champion their Christian liberty with little regard for how they may cause weaker believers to stumble. |

What do you feel this example teaches? We should have classes to determine who is an alcoholic - vs. those that can handle their liquor?Abstinence |

What do you feel this example teaches? We should have classes to determine who is an alcoholic - vs. those that can handle their liquor?Abstinence? It didn't make the news when my youngest son got a DUI but the lesson did teach him a thing or two & the example of his embarrassment resonated throughout our church & our own family. He owned every bit of the discipline that came his way from jail time to having his license suspended except for work related events.Happened about 8 years ago & he has been a model citizen & christian ever since. In fact I often tease him (since it's old news) that the DUI helped to wake him up & grow up to be a fine young man & business owner.DUI feels like the end of the road when it first happens but sometimes it serves as a much needed wake up call. Dean,I am sorry your family had to deal with this but it sounds like the end result is an amazing blessing! Not too long after I started Pastoring my dad got a DUI. He was one of those guys who always argued that it was okay to drink until this happened. I think it really embarrassed him that his Pastor Son had to come and bail him out. He had a big fine, I believe his license were suspended and his name(my name is the same) was in the Boone County newspaper. Since this incident my dad has not touched a drop. I've not had the discussion about alcohol with him since but his actions tell what he thinks of it now. |

I've not had the discussion about alcohol with him since but his actions tell what he thinks of it now.I know there is the consumption of wine in the scripture but for the life of me, I think we are missing something when we interpret it's use to include too much wine, beer, whiskey, etc. It is a trap. I feel the same way Wayne, for the life of me I don't get the alcohol debate.I spent my entire youth life & young adult life abstaining from alcohol & marijuana & now we have a huge debate in the church regarding the consumption vs. Don't make me feel guilty preacher aspect.I'm not trying to live as close to the edge with my walk with Christ ...I'm trying to live as close to Him as I can & I know that vices like drugs & booze will stir me away from God based on my experiences with friends & family who have never gotten the victory. We need a revival that embraces holiness!
