Post subject:  Ernie Long: Can a house or building be possessed by demons?

I have been asked by another pastor to go to a friend of a friend's house and cast out demons that live in their house. What I have been told is this couple moved into this house last month and have seen shadows and hear ping pong balls bounce down the steps leading to the upstairs. They don't play ping pong and have never owned ping pong balls, but found some under the stairs.Unless I overlooked it, I have found nothing biblical that supports demons living in houses.

I'm not a pastor EL, but I think I would suggest the other pastor go cast the demons out.Unless the house in question is a new construction, there could be thousands of explanations for ping pong balls being found. Also in my experience in the building business, MANY HOUSES MAKE NOISES and there are hundreds of reasons for that. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

I do know that Roman Catholic exorcists sometimes are called upon to rid houses of what they call demonic infestation. In my experience, charismatics typically believe that buildings can be inhabited by demons. (I once knew a charismatic group who prayed and commanded the 'Baptist spirit' to leave the church facilities they had purchased from a Baptist congregation).

No.These folks have probably been messing around with the occult. Talking to palm readers. Watch scary movies. Messing with Ouija boards. Entertaining these type spirits.

Is your friend scared to go by himself ? Like Diakoneo said, it seems that certain people are more susceptible to this kind of thing. I have a good (Christian) friend who is convinced there is an older home in his neighborhood that is haunted. Strange things supposedly happen- mysterious appearances of people, furniture moving, so on and so forth. I argue that demons don't inhabit inanimate objects, they look for a living vessel. But honestly the Bible says so very little about the nature of demons, their origins, etc. The Catholic Church seems to have the market cornered on exorcism. Not surprising though, since their theology includes interceding on behalf of the dead. There are certainly things that defy logical explanation. There are a couple of ways you could handle this. You could explain to this couple that you don't believe the house is demon- possessed, but that you would be glad to pray a prayer of blessing in the house. Or you could simply decline to get involved. What always concerns me is the setting of precedent. I don't like to feed superstitious behaviors by accommodating them. I also don't want to be known as the guy who will exorcise your house . That could keep a pastor real busy in a big city

I have not witnessed it myself, but heard an evangelist whom I respected relating a personal experience about something like that.

Post subject:  Ernie Long: I am supposed to meet

the friends of these people tomorrow with the other pastor. I don't have a good feeling about any of this. I have had encounters with demon possessed people, but never with a supposedly demon possessed house.I am waiting on the direction of the Holy Spirit and until then I will not proceed any further with this.Honestly, I feel this is a demonic trap to upset what the Lord is doing in our church. After four years here, the people are hungry for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. We have verified reports of people being healed of cancer. Others are believing God for their families salvation, kids being delivered from addictions and some stepping into ministries where when I first arrived here, were happy just showing up for church.

I would say this group has a definite and severe problem.
