If I was living in a country near a rich one, and my family was living in horrible conditions, no hope of ever improving while living there, I too would be trying to find a way to that richer country where at least there was hope.I have a heart of compassion for those who come here seekng a better life. I am not angry at them for wanting better. It is possible a great wall will slow down the number of them coming here but I think we well-fed, three-car family Americans, cannot relate to the desperation those South of our border feel. One incident kind of woke me up about it. Two young men from El Salvador, built a small wooden box on the back of a truck. It was about as long as a coffin but not as high. They had hollow tubs stuck out on each side from which they could breath.Manure was piled high on top of the box and around it in hopes the horrible smell would keep police from checking the truck closely. However, along the route North, some of the manure began to fall off. Ultimately, they were discovered and had to return to their own country. No, I'm not for uncontrolled immigration. I agree, we must know who is coming here. That was not so crucial until potential terrorists began using the Southern border to come into our country. I totally support limiting the number of immigrants and absolutrely support removing illegals who are involved in criminal activity. While the focus is on people from Mexico and Central America, we are being flooded with illegals from India and China and predominately Muslim countries. Most pundents forget that every year, almost one million immigrants come here legally. To get official papers of citizenship can take seven to nine years. If you are a loving father or mother living in a cardboard box somewhere with no hope things getting better, seeing the riches of a nearby country would be almost impossible to ignore. This is especially true if your kids are going hungry. With them being hungry, you don't have seven to nine years to wait.In some cases, those from a incedibly rich country should be careful about refusing beggars to have the crumbs from the rich man's table.Doyl |
