First a qualifier: My hearing has been terrible for years. I have two Cochlear Implants so my opinions could be prejudiced......In another post, Link addresses the amplitude of music during prayer and prophecy. This is a less 'spiritual' application, because it seems to be across the board.Growing up there is nothing I enjoyed better than 'guitar picking' and singing. Either in the church or entertainers. i.e. Chet Atkins guitar or Dean Martin singing. The music instrumentals NEVER drowned out the vocals. Love songs, either to God or my Girl, I wanted to hear the words, the music was secondary.Garland Page & Dud Smith at the Valdese, NC church, stands out in my mind from the past. They blended like the Everly Brothers between verses you could hear the guitar, no amplification, as Garland seemed to pick with every finger on his right hand.I have Grand sons who sing and play professionally. When they sing for us at home with an acoustic(?) guitar I understand some of the words to songs they have written, but on the stage or CD, all I hear is the STRUMMING or beating of guitars and drums!Do you understand the words to songs whey they are sung now (If they are not projected on a screen)?????Do any singers still sing like Vep Ellis, T.N. Ward, Bill Waters, etc? Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/ |

A lot of musicians today do not understand that they are providing the backup for the singers. They are , or should be , only providing music at a level below the audio of the singer. Not above or equal to. If the music is mixed and balanced right , the listener should be able to detect any subtle fill notes of each instrument along with the clarity of the singers voice. Sounds difficult but it is really easy. It requires teamwork and a good sound engineer. |

That actually sounds like Music Leader 101 Logic. Should work for bands too. I don't think many do that. Seems to be Very good points, even for us unlearned of music. Sorta like the guy who made a logical statement about piano playing when someone said, how can you say that about his piano playing, you don't know one note from the other. Hey I might not know how to play a Piano, but I can sure tell whether you can or not.But really, I did(do) love good singing, but I would like to hear the words, not just the tune.
