I'm doing a little research and I was wondering if anyone as the year when, and perhaps the before/after text, of the Church of God teaching change on divorce and second marriage. Also, was there an additional adjustment to that teaching at some point?

Yep, they was an additional adjustment an then another. Cause I think now a feller can be in his 3rd marriage an be credentialed. If its just about membership, a feller coulda been married 20 times. Just aks forgiveness an ya good to go. Or, say Gods done led ya into 19 new seasons. OTCP,OK, I sense a certain viewpoint from your post, but there's not much to work with there. Let's expand the conversation here as to why I am interested in the research. On another forum there was a discussion about the 1923 expulsion of A. J. Tomlinson. In the course of the discussion the thinking that one of the reasons AJT was forced out was due to his conservative view of divorce and remarriage. If you study the minutes prior to the 1923 you can see there is some disagreement in the assembly over this issues. So the question is, once AJT was forced out how long was it until the teaching on divorce and remarriage was altered? As to your post, can a person have been married 20 times and be a member in good standing today? I would think he would be one poor tired member if he could have lived through it all.

Not to mention the confounding optimism of that 19th or 20th wife. He must be very rich. I hear that helps in getting multiple wives, with each one getting younger as the years (and wives) role by.

I had two dear friends whom I always thought were Ordained and never gave ti a thought as to why they were not on the GA 'FLOOR'. Later he told me after his first wife died that he was ordained now, since he was now the 'husband of one wife'.The other was Ordained just before he died because his first wife had died also, Both men told me, I am the same man I was ten years ago. That doesn't answer the OP, but does bring up a statement I have heard at least a 1000 times, I have never met the guilty party! Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Several decades, so this IS NOT the reason AJT left the COG. What does his conservative views on D&R (which were not really that conservative for the time period in question) have to do with money management? Well there is that issue of the sham audit (incomplete I think is what the civil courts said) that was used to accuse him of wrong doing. So there are those who reason there must have been underlying issues. No doubt his opposition to the COG constitution factors in, as does his authoritarian leadership. I remember reading one letter from Lee to Tomlinson, in which Lee was berating Tomlinson for his control, but at the same time he berated him for not getting out and raising money for the school. Why would Lee ask Tomlinson to raise money for the school if he had no use for him as a leader?Just trying to understand.Mat
