| Not entirely true 4golf!Just being a regular ole sinner does not open you to demonic possession.The spirit of man who knows no Christ can tell the difference between right & wrong & at the same time choose not to engage in spiritual activity.Possession almost entirely develops when the soul, not the spirit, is left open for spiritual reasons. For instance I teach people to never allow yourself to be hypnotized, why? Because you're playing with the supernatural spiritual. I teach to stay away from ouija board games for the same reason.Never for any reason try a seance as it is an attempt to communicate with the dead.Stay away from palm readers & sorcerers or from those who practice witchcraft unless you are intentionally trying to witness Christ to them.When we open any spiritual door we stand the chance of leaving the door of our heart unguarded & a person can be open to possession if they do not know Christ.I've known of people who were possessed & during their initial determination of discovery they tried to move the demon out by way of the occult or by going to a catholic priest (bad idea) or by seeking answers about their spiritual condition thru sooth sayers. This type of searching only allows more demons to move in with the original demon & the problem worsens.Jesus dealt with a lot of weird voodoo among the Jews who were into all kinds of pagan religions & the people would engage in spiritual unlawful things. Some to this day practice giving their offspring to the spirits not knowing it's the devil. The man's boy in Matthew 17is trying to kill himself because the demon wants to harm him until Jesus comes along. Notice Jesus calls them perverse probably due to their practices of pagan rituals & because they all lacked the proper faith.7 chapters earlier Jesus gave His disciples authority over demons but they apparently lacked the proper faith to free the boy from possession & were operating in unbelief.So Jesus gave them a homework assignment. If you want spiritual power over these types of demons you better be fasting & praying! Why? Because demons relate to spiritual authority & they know that when you suffer in the flesh for the purpose of gaining strength in the Spirit they are in trouble.Spiritual authority means, Jesus I know & Paul I know but who are you?Paul put in the time & the 7 sons of Sceva did not.My son reminded me last week of a time when he went with me to help deliver a woman who was possessed. (We didn't know for sure at the time but when we got there we found out). As soon as we walked in the room where she sat at a table this fairly attractive 20 something spoke to us in a deep male voice & said these words, I know why you have come here today.Oddly she kept looking over my head from left to right as if she were staring at the corners of the ceiling & would snarl. She was seeing angels in the spirit world.Once she was delivered she had no recollection of seeing such things & she in fact remembered very little of what we had to endure that evening.Keep your eyes on Jesus & live for Him every day & He will bless you enough to overpower such spirits. | it seems logical that the average dude is not susceptible to possession. But playing with the 'supernatural' could definitely open a door.Dean's answer seems to speak to how I have felt. I have only seen one incident I 'thought' or 'felt positive' was 'possession'. That was once when I was real young, and visiting an independent Holiness Church mid week service. The nearest COG (where we were members) was 70 miles away.A man challenged the pastor openly in church to prove God, show me something. After a few minutes I felt the pastor was losing it, I stood and escorted the man outside. we sat and talked on the church steps. He was wild, but humble (if that makes any sense. He refused prayer, and it was like a fear.)He said 'Do not touch me again, but you can pray, but I am right! I prayed, he was respectful and walked off. Later the pastor could not thank me enough. I still to this day do not know if I was led by God to step in. I also do not know if it was demon possession. But it is the closest thing I have seen in 78 years. I was in the USAF, about 20 years old and thought I was called to preach at the time. Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/ |

| I think you handled it perfectly Cojak because the pastor was probably in over his head & didn't know what to do. In the early years of my ministry I had an associate pastor who was a few years older but man was he empowered by the Holy Ghost. One night a lady named Theresa came in & even though I had seen her before I had no idea she was dealing with possession, but my associate did. Within about 3 hours she was set free & I learned a lot because I probably would not have known what to do w/out an experienced devil caster-outer lol. | I based my post by the Word of God! The Word of God says; When the demon comes back to a person who there house is clean swept and put in order. He goes and takes 7 more spirits more wicked than himself and they ENTER and DWELL there and the last state is worse that the first! That is in Luke 11. People try to reinvent the Bible and add to it besides just reading it and obeying it. This is the problem when people think they are smarter than God and His Word. If you get saved and don't obey the Word of God and the leading and rebuke of the Holy Spirit God will not pour more of Himself into you if you don't obey what you already know. Then the devil and demons will come into your life and fill it with there stuff. There are ONLY two voices in this world. The voice of God and the voice of the devil! You WILL be lead by one or the other |
