To by very honest, Bonnie is probably the closest person I knew on the internet, but never met personally. Her passing has generated a lot of thinking on my part. I called her Bonnie. I am an informal type of guy, so that is good. BUT I grew up with so many folks whose first name was Brother or Sister. In my youth I was taught to refer to any church member as Brother or Sister. I sorta liked it. I was a senior before I heard the song (Raymond Perry sang it) with that line We say Brother and /Sister around here, That's because we are a family and we hold Jesus near (I think that is a line from the song.)I know it is no big deal, but our present pastor is the first pastor I have called by his first name. I call all my earthly family by their first name, so I guess there is no difference. I do call him 'Pastor' at times. I still mess up and call people I meet at church, i'e' Brother Brown and Sister Minnie McCumbee.Thinking of Sister Minnie. Her husband was 'Jinks McCumbee'. My dad pastored 7 churches and 'Jinx or Jinks' was the oddest name I remember.Jinx was the clerk of the church in Belmont. I remember his name well. I tried to out run the local gendarme once and he caught me right in front of Jinx's house. I knew I was 'jinxed' as I was hauled off to jail! (1955). I found out pastors don't like their sons to be in jail!Any odd names in your pastorates? (just for fun Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/ |
