I have noticed that the songs we sing in church now are much narrower in scope than the songs we sang when I was a youngster. Here is an article that promotes broadening our imagery, especially beyond the American romantic ideal, when we sing of God’s love.
Agreed – romantic love songs to Jesus have their place – but their is a much broader love out there.Life is full of many more experiences than romance – our worship songs should incorporate all of them.We have made most worship songs into romantic worship – like a 14 year old girl discovering first love. We need to broaden our base – country songs don’t just talk about the girl – they incorporate a dog, fishing, and hanging out with friends…oh, and trains________________
But the perfect country song talks About mama, trains, trucks, prison, getting’ drunk. ie;Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prisonAnd I went to pick her up in the rainBut before I could get to the station in my pickup truckShe got run ned over by a da**d old train
I still think I would sing that song before some of the ones that are force fed to me at church________________
I think I could get past ‘God is my Boy friend’ pretty fast. methinks________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
