Back about 1969 Doug Elliott and I went to Waffle House in Cleveland, Tennessee for a midnight snack. A Coach for the Singing Speer Family pulled up and apparently had just finished a road singing trip.
The ladies came in all decked out with make up and loaded with all kinds of jewelry. I knew right then they were not of the Church of God denomination.
47 years later I find myself in error with this judgment. I was right in my “Church of God” mind for 17 years more and for the last 30 years have been wrong. Pickles have souls!

I was right, they were not CoG! How did I know that?
The error I carried back then was that I concluded that they were not “Christian” and certainly not CoG! That error has to be atoned and repented of. I am delivered from that!

Good they were very devout people
I feel bad that I didn’t believe that then. My parents were dismissed from the local Nazarene Church for attending the CoG!
Unsure if it was either Urias or Alphus, although the I tend to think it was Urias LeFevre who came to where I was Pastoring a Church of God in Ohio at the time. He and his young people came in a van. When they arrived, some of the young ladies pointed to their ear rings they were wearing and looked at my wife, wondering if they should be wearing them during their singing in the church that Sunday. My wife shook her head No and the girls simply removed them. Of course, at that time, the CoG (Cleveland, TN) would not permit women or men who wore ear rings to be members of the CoG. We had a great service and I really liked Urias LeFevre. Here is a pic of the CoG I built.
Alphus published music with one of our pastors, Harry Kutz, he married Alphus and Urias’ sister, Omega LeFever.
I am thrilled beyond my mind that I got in my Holy Bible in 1952 when I was saved. Then I prayed through to Santification. The Holy Ghost poured Holiness in me and 64 years later I am still Old Time Bible Holiness. I was Church of God but I got my convictions from the Word of God. I still love Church of God people.
