MUSLIMS (2002)
WHEREAS the Bible directs us to go into all the world and preach the gospel to all nations, and there is a way that seems right to man but the end thereof are the ways of death; and
WHEREAS Islam has become the fastest growing religion in the world, and has attracted an attrition from Christianity among our ethnic communities (ABC News), and has more than 6 million members in the United States alone (US News and World Report), with 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide (Islamic Web); and
WHEREAS there has been A Wave of Conversion to Islam in the United States (and worldwide) following the events of September 11, 2001,” with more than 35,000 converts in the United States during the year following (Islamic Web); and
WHEREAS Christianity and Islam are antithetical, stemming from centuries of historical conflict; and
WHEREAS we are sympathetic to human rights and individual beliefs but cannot compromise our position on the gospel that Jesus Christ is the only agent by whom one may possess eternal life; and
WHEREAS Muslims are actively and aggressively involved in Islamic “evangelism,” and it is stated in the second surah (chapter) of the Qur’an (Al-Bagarah) that Allah encourages the Muslims to “fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is Allah’s” (2:193), and that recently, international terrorists have quoted the Qur’an and the Hadith, saying, “I was ordered to fight the people until there is no god but Allah, and his Prophet Muhammad,” and that their resolve is seen when stated, “We will defend the Holy Land with our blood and with our spirit;” and
WHEREAS we recognize the “Farrakhanization” of American Islam to the personal end of further division, separation, and animosity between the races, along with a strong anti-Semitic doctrine; and
WHEREAS Elijah Muhammad told his followers, “the greatest hindrance to the truth of our people [members of the Nation of Islam] is the preacher of Christianity;”
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that the international Church of God, as a denomination, do aggressively seek to understand Islam more clearly, so we may present Christ more effectively, and love Muslims to the cross; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED to take a sympathetic yet uncompromising position toward the entire scope of the Islamic religion, and in so doing, we recognize that all faiths are not the same, but that Jesus Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6), and that no man comes to the Father but through Him, and that although there is only one way, the path is opened by the blood of Jesus for all who will believe; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Church of God clergy and membership display the compelling love of God (John 3:16), His Son Jesus (John 13:35), and the Holy Spirit (John 16:7-11), and that our churches be filled with a bold and gracious witness to the returning Christ, “Which in His times He shall show, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords” (1 Timothy 6:15).

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this International General Assembly recognizes all members of the body of Christ as equal in function and consequence, and every race and ethnic distinction a valuable and necessary field for the winning of souls and the furtherance of the kingdom of God upon this earth; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we commit towards the elimination of racism and bigotry, corporately identifying racism and bigotry as sinful hindrances which prevent us from truly realizing brotherhood and Christian love within and outside the body of the international church and the many peoples and races which it reaches and encompasses (68th A., 2000, p. 89).

I am not aware of any stream of orthodox Christianity that denies a catching away of living saints at the resurrection of the dead and second coming of Christ.

I would challenge anyone to research the archived posts of OTCP, and you will find not one single post derogatory of the COG. There will be a few that were posted in jest, and they are clearly referenced as such.Others, however, from day one of their involvement with Acts, used the venue as a tool to lambast, criticize, demean and spread vitriol and venom against the COG, its leadership and decisions made by those in authority. I think you would find that the word circumcision could be used in place of sabbath (in terms of it being prior to the Law, codified by the Law, practiced by Jesus, etc.). And yet we know clearly that it is not required for Gentile believers. Granted, however, that the Sabbath is not so clearly exempted.It is MY OPINION that one of the reasons the church moved to Sunday vs. the Sabbath was because, in time, the divide between Jews and Christians became more and more intense. With the rise of Judaizers, it seemed that the early church grew more and more distrustful of Jews and/or those that thought Christians should observe certain Jewish traditions/requirements.The Catholic Church may have cemented the change, but it doesn’t seem to me that it would have arisen organically from the notion that Jesus rose on that day. That is, it is hard for me to think that Christians said that they didn’t have to observe the Sabbath just because Jesus was rose on the first day of the week. It seems that there must surely have been other drivers to the change. And it (again) my opinion that it all may have been a reaction to Judaism trying to control Christianity…or a reaction to feeling pushed out of synagogues by the increasingly bitter divide between Jews and Christians…or a reaction to being thought of as just another branch of Judaism (e.g., Pharisees, Saducees, and Christians).
While circumcision, like tithing, pre-dated the Law of Moses, circumcision is a non-issue. The Jerusalem Council addressed this issue. Further, Paul later equated the symbolism of entering the Abrahamic covenant with baptism:

But u left out an important part of Acts 24, you left out verse 23, it talks about four men had a vow on them selves and they had to shave their heads. Btw, that’s in the Torah about a Nazarite vow, & this is after Messiahs death & then Paul goes on to say inverse 25 what is quoted in Acts chapter 15, which is the starting point for gentilesYes, Paul did address that situation in Galatians which is the same one in Acts 15, but he was not talking against the Torah of Elohim. & I just want to say something right here for all those who think Paul is against Torah is that you only have two choices, either the way people read Paul is misunderstood, or Paul is a heretick and you have to throw him outPaul is a rabbi, as Messiah is a rabbi, and a rabbi can only teach Torah. Thank you for your prayers. I received permission from the doc through the PT (physical therapist) yesterday to take off the immobilizer, which has made getting around easier. Tommy Bates is the real deal. When I heard him in person, one of the things that I thought was great was that he told people if they could afford to support his ministry, that was awesome. But he said he did not want little old ladies sending in their money if they needed it themselves. I’ve never heard any minister tell people to keep their $ if they couldn’t afford it. I am pretty sure he said they are debt free, too. They also have a lot of young people who have been delivered from drugs and are on fire for Jesus. BUT, as the President of the United States, his words have impact. He uses the vernacular of the blue collar man and while that enables him to connect with his base it is insensitive to those whom he offends. To be all aghast that he said it is mock offense. Some of these criticizing him have probably said worse in private conversation. He made the mistake of speaking off handedly in a semi private conversation with some Democratic and Republican Senators in a small meeting. Guess who threw him under the bus? Probably never Trumper Jeff Flake. It does beg the question that is getting lost in the racist comments, why ARE we bringing in so many Haitians and Africans and other 3rd world citizens who are not suffering war? Compassion? yes but if you have been to some of these countries as I have, you’d want to leave too. How many can we assimilate? What is the proper number of people we should bring in each year? Should we bring any in? This the discussion we should be having.

As a former lifeguard/water safety instructor, I can say that an untrained rescuer could quite possibly do more harm than good, regardless of intentions, and might even result in a double drowning of both the rescuee and the rescuer.
