The "we know better" …
The we know better approach this church committee took, instead of contacting law enforcement and child protection agencies immediately once this was reported to them, will result in lawsuits against the church and against the members of the committee and the governing board. Many of them will have criminal records and the viability of the church in the long term is now in doubt. In such cases I have dealt with in the past, the insurance company often tells us that as long as you followed proper policies and the law we will back you up. However, from the facts presented in the article, the insurance company may part ways with the church to cut their losses. The committee members and governing board of the church may have to pay for their own legal defense. After all is said and done, I guess they will be able to say, we know better..now!
