During some funerals I have attended, the deceased is hardly mentioned. Some ministers say little about the deceased. Instead, the time is spent in either preaching a sermon or exhorting those in attendance to prepare for eternity. Some ministers put pressure on people to accept Christ.Listen, I am totally on board with people making a profession of faith and publicly accepting the Lord. In Acts 4:2, Apostle Peter was speaking of Jesus when he rather emphatically said, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” A funeral certainly is a time to speak of faith and eternity. There is the opportunity to speak about faith and eternity to entire families and their circle of friends at one time. I have no hesitancy at all in speaking of faith and reminding people of the need to prepare for eternity, but I am uncomfortable in putting pressure on people to accept Christ during a funeral. Am I wrong in that? Should I be more forceful? Yes. I do present the plan of salvation but while emotions are running high and some are feeling desperate from their grief, pushing for an altar call comes across to me as taking advantage of their grief. How do you go about presenting the Gospel and reminding people of their destiny with eternity?Doyl________________

Bro Page, I am here only as an onlooker and reader, I don’t mean to be interfering with this forum but, do you realize haw many people are reading this , millions are seeing a minister in the Church Of God slandering ministers and churches , The Church Of God that I have loved from child hood, I have several pastor members of my family, Do you have any idea what damages you have done to this organisation, I put you as a friend on my facebook and I can tell you from what I have read I will be dismissing you after this, If I were a pastor of the Church Of God, I would have a conference with your superiors, no one of us is perfect and a lot of people doesn’t understand what you are saying as a new member of your congregation, I am very disappointed in hearing this on open forum, I wonder how many people would be in danger of judgement from God and sent to Hell because of this, you should keep your mouth shut in public on these matters, sorry I f I have offended anyone but this has offended me deeply, our Churches need moral support not critism.
This forum provides a vital ministry for a wonderful group of people. It also opens blinded eyes of some confused people.
Hurting is one thing. Understanding is one thing but rubbing salt on a open wound is unnecessary.
You are such a confusing man! I don’t know if you are cog Cleveland or not. At times you sound bitter at them.
I see more gossip than I do people venting
Amen
Colored???? Sweet babe in a manger help this man.
This is still the designated descriptor for blacks in the Church of God. What do you use as a descriptor?
Will you make a worthwhile comment to the post?
This man needs to get a life !
Don’t misinterpret my words.
…Actually, I have avoided reading ur “forum” because of the off beat thinking. I’m disappearing after this misuse of my words.
Truly, there must be a soul to win rather than spending so much time with criticism. How much time do you spend ministering in prisons, nursing homes, or caring or talking to a homeless person??
Please don’t answer. Not interested.. Im just putting out the thot. I know what I did today to care for others.
