Thanks to all my friends I’ve made and known for the many years I’ve been a part of this board.I served my time in ban-land for something that was funny. Now, my post about the water park has been removed and I have been scolded via private message by Doyle. This is the end for me. I cannot continue to post. It’s been fun.
I really thought that one was funny! ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
I missed it________________
Pick a different hill to die on. This board desperately needs the diversity you bring…whether it knows it or not.Hang in there________________I’m not saved because I’m good. I’m saved because He’s good!My website: http://www.bradfreeman.comMy blog: bradcfreeman.tumblr.com/
The pool pic was funny. Nobody is disputing that, but funny is not the same as being acceptable. The comments about brown stuff floating in the water,(not funny) helped make the decision to delete the post, easier. As I shared personally with mytime, I’m former military so there are few things I have not heard. There is no claim here that any of us, especially me, are perfect, but we do have an idea of what kind of post we want on the board and what kind we do not. Poster mytime did not, as he put it, Spend time in ban-land for something funny. The ban was made by Moderators who felt what was posted (intended or not) had salacious overtones. I felt they made the right call.I deleted the most recent post but did not institute a ban. The door to mytime posting remains open as long as he is open to listening to the advice of those who moderate the board. Prior to his most recent post, I wrote him a kind personal note and shared that I was deleting the post and shared why. Of interesting note, one of the disagreements with the decision, has come from someone who was angry that we did not allow more diversity on the board. This from someone who I have continued to allow on the board in spite of his diverse and controversial views. No other poster in the history of the board has had more requests from viewers for us to ban. Some viewers have strongly let me know that in that case, they feel I have been too diverse. Some have left because I did not ban that more diverse poster. Some days around here it’s just like pastoring. There are some days when those you didn’t help are upset, and those you did, are too .Doyl________________
I hope you are not referring to me…but it appears you are. Let me be clear
In spite of the major backlash for allowing your continued use of the board, my feeling at the time was that possibly it would help viewers learn to make a defense against doctrines with which they may disagree. Right or wrong, I made an intentional decision to allow your continuing on the board. So yes, it did come as a surprise to see your insinuation that we have not been diverse enough. This is your quote to mytime: This board desperately needs the diversity you bring…whether it knows it or not. What we do know, is that the word diversity is not necessarily a good one. My concern is not about diversity that anyone, including you or mytime supposidly brings to the board. My concern was and is that viewers could use it to strengthen their own belief system. As far as mytime is concerned, it is now his call as to whether he wants to continue here or not. To do so, means he is open to guidance provided by those who Moderate the board. If not, we wish him well and appreciate any good posts he has made.Doyl________________
Perhaps if the board wasn’t as arbitrary in their decisions it wouldn’t be an issue.
See you later mytime.________________
Well, as you know Patrick, almost everything in life comes with a perspective and a context. Such is the case here. Has there been a previous incident? Is there behind-the-scenes communication or not? Is the person open to the perspective of those who administer the board? It is not unusual for those who are called upon to make decisions, to have a a different perspective. What is going on in a larger sense; words or events surrounding the situation? It is your perspective that things posted at some time previously in the past 17 years of ACTS, in your opinion, were worse. Other viewers may or may not agree. We have no worse, more worse, most worse categories. It’s my understanding that one of our Administrators had asked several times for the poster to cooperate but without getting a positive reply. So, the Administrator put in a ban until things could be worked out. When the situation was brought to me, I made contact with the poster several times personally and also worked to get him reinstated. As much as is possible, I like to give people another chance. The poster in question is not banned at this time. The door for him to post is still open, but we are not reluctant to ask a poster to work with us.Doyl________________
The ole timer ain’t never in 15+ years been banned. Some folk wanted him banned so they would not be challenged for their error.Others woulda loved a ban cause they could not outwit the pure wit of the outwitter hisself.A few wanted a ban cause the ole timer would not support their independent leanings. An yet others, knowing the ole timer will never lay to rest, not as long as preachers is engaging in such behavior, the issue of slipshod, 2-bit, unaccredited, valueless academic degrees–specially docterates.
Re: Yes Brad, the reference was to you
You do deserve credit for tolerating my presence…even if it is tolerated as an exterminator would tolerate a roach in a fish bowl so that the other exterminators can study how best to kill the roach. You do deserve credit for overcoming your inclination that diversity is not necessarily good. Here are a few scriptures on the beautiful diversity in the body of Christ:1 Cor. 12:4
I think we could sing that to Pink Floyd’s Just Another Brick in the Wall.
I think we could sing that to Pink Floyd’s Just Another Brick in the Wall.Just another roach in the bowl…
Brother Brad, at no time ever have I considered you to be a roach or a reproach. I believe you to be a completely serious and dedicated man of faith. That does not mean I agree with some of your theories and or perspectives on Scripture. However, what I was attempting to convey, and evidently not so well, was that we have allowed people with different perspectives to use the board. So it was surprising to see a post from someone who has used the board to share their diverse views, accuse us of not being diverse. The board has been open for you to share your heart. But surely you know that many of our viewers have not been happy about that.My feeling was that as they considered and possibly rebutted some of your presentations, it would strengthen them in their belief. Not sure, but maybe you have also learned some things from your fellow posters. I hope so, because almost nobody likes someone with a know-it-all approach.Brad, I still believe you have a heart for God and for good. I would imagine that says more about you than all the writings you could ever do, but people with a different perspective, can receive a hostile response from those who disagree. However, sincerity is in itself not the same as being correct. There have been many people who have been sincerely wrong.Sadly, there ain’t no bowl round here. It’s a barrel and at some time or another, all of us have been at the bottom of it. Wasn’t there a Gospel song that included the words I was looking up from the bottom when He shined His light down on me? I remember the line but not the name of the song.Doyl________________
Brad is one of my favorite people on this board. He has great faith, unlike some that are faith killers.
