Taken from a COG pastor’s page:Here is a report from the AB of Texas, Tim and Rhonda Brown.I have spoken with the following pastors and they have given me these updates:1. Pastor Roy Love, Houston-Praise Chapel COG, and he is currently waiting on rescue. He is stranded in his home. His church is flooded and he reports It is gone.2. Pastor Donald Dyson Sr. & Samantha Dyson at Lake Livingston COG report that they are taking on water at the parsonage and church.3. Pastor Matthew K. Phillip at Houston-Full Gospel COG reports that his house is flooded but he and his family are presently safe and out of the flood. He reports that the area where the church is located is fully flooded.4. Pastor Bill and Kathryn Ratchford are updated as safe although stranded at their home They are presently running pumps at the church.5. Pastor Dereck White & Courtnie White at Conroe COG shared that the church has taken on water.6. Pastor John & Kerry LaLonde @ Fountain of Life COG in Cyrpress report that the church is dry now but a storm water retention system next to the church that is close to overflow. If it flows out of its banks it will flow right to the church.7. If you have family/friends in TX, one of the best things that helped us when we were flooded was receiving gift cards for stores we shopped, like Wally World. That way we could buy exactly what we needed. You don’t want to tell folks you need new undies! Thanks Carolyn for starting this. I was just a bout to ask if anyone had any specific news.Our experience as volunteers to the Katrina area was an eye opener. You can go too soon if you are shooting in the dark. What hit me the most, was ‘NO LOCAL WORKERS’. I mean the local Walmart, McDonalds, Waffle house etc, had very few folks working because they had been displaced, and the managers and ‘NEW’ help were in a fast learning curve. I talked to a man leaving a Lowes and he had been in the pay line for 2 hours to get nails and screws..I never even gave that a thought. We were fortunate we had taken our food and tools to work in the motor home.But the folks flying in to help had to find transportation, RENTALS were out in a couple hours. Volunteers do not want to get in line to eat and displace some local person who has just lost everything.We did go to a Waffle house after about a week and the waitress was NEW and had never taken orders before, but was struggling and glancing outside at a line as far as you could see.The lack of local help was Just something I learned first hand, THINGS WILL BE TOUGH!I wish I was young enough to go…… ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
Cojak, you make a good point. It affects the businesses & the economy in many ways. Many businesses were closed immediately following the flood. Some never re-opened. I saw that info about two more churches have been added:8. I just spoke with Pastor Mark Ainsworth from Thickett COG. They are dry now. Others may be coming to them for refuge because their church has elevation.9. Pastor Bill Ainsworth from Richwood COG had to evacuate from their home because of flooding. They had just remodeled their home one year ago. Pray for them as they relocate.I also saw another post saying the water was almost to the Thickett COG.Bishop Hill also did a FB live today that is about 30 minutes. Haven’t watched it but it’s here…www.facebook.com/TimHillMinistriesAlso saw this info about the Hispanic COGs in Houston:Pastor Eloy Gomez from the Church of God in Katy, TX went to check his church this afternoon and found 2 feet of water inside the sanctuary. They lost everything. Several Hispanic congregations have families who must be evacuated here in the city of Houston. A whole family came to my house walking for 6 blocks with the water at the level of the chest. They left their house with more than one foot of water inside. We have over 20 Hispanic God’s Churches in Houston. Because the streets can not be transited we are having services in the homes, family altar, and we connect through Facebook Live. We have had these home services every day since last Saturday with more than a thousand people connected. The Spirit of God continues hovering over the waters. Please pray for Houston. I’ve seen where people are walking through thigh deep and chest deep water…others are on the roof. I love your compassionate heart. If you did head that way, probably the best thing to do would be hook up with one of the state Men/Women of Action through the COG. They send teams in after everything settles to help rebuild. Pretty sure they have them in ENC & WNC. I met some of the MOA from Kannapolis while I worked in Pascagoula on the COG there. They relieved Sherry and I when we had to leave. It was such a rewarding task, and so appreciated.
