we are not there, but have friends that are, so my wife calls it up on the internet. she watched a service and asked me, Why would they have a preacher in florida who is not COG preach the camp meeting? We had pastors at Bradenton and Eustis who put the Word out as well as this man. the sermon was good, but I expected a pastor from Ocala or J’ville. Travis would have blessed the people had they called him!I had not told her there was a discussion here on Acts concerning that same subject. I just smiled, that is the overseer and council’s determination.I just thought it was unique that a member would think it odd. ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

  3. Last night was off the chain! Youth night is always big, and this was no exception. The young people led worship with several students from Lead Florida, as well as other young adults with the mass youth choir. All of my kids were there, with my oldest working the canteen (she’s in Lead FL). Tony Suarez brought straight fire. The Spirit really touched us and many danced in the Spirit around the altar. I received a fresh dose of joy myself.As for using non-COG guys, as long as God wants to use the Tony Suarez’s, Samuel Rodriguez’s, and Jim Cymbala’s (he was in SC Thursday), I’m good.   4. I am definitely not a selfish person, and as long as God is blessing ’tis good. I just know that it would be a blessing for some of our ‘hidden’ worship and preaching talent to be also blessed and displayed for god’s glory and to be a blessing.If we are to be interdenominational, lets go forward with it and allow our ministers to also share their ‘anointed’ talents in other venues/denominations, and independent works.It is sorta two faced to promote independent and other denominational ministries and pull credentials of the little guy who just wants to spread the Word.I don’t mean that to be a wet blanket. I do not think that this thread was about how great Camp Meeting was – but rather who is making the decision to use certain speakers & singers and why?It is obvious, the Florida State Overseer either has a backbone like a saw-logand made this choice himself OR he is spineless and allowed Cleveland HQ Leadership tell him who to pick because they have an behind-the-scenes agenda.

She breathes COG, and has no stones to throw at the COG. She has been a member of this church since 1944 and KNOWS we have and have had some of the best ministers in the world, just wondered why they weren’t being used. ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

She breathes COG, and has no stones to throw at the COG.   12. What is ludicrous and incorrect is you thought that the COG HQ Leadershipdoes not force it’s will on the Camp Meeting Speaker Agenda.1. The 5 EC Members are up for re-election – and (by the nature of the COG system) force their way onto the speaking agenda of the largest states and the Covenant Groups.2. The State AB knows that he better ask the Correct EC member to speak at the Bible Study or Night Service if that AB wants to be retained or promoted.3. If the EC tells the State AB to ask a non-COG Minister to speak you can be certain that they are trying to bring that Speaker into the Church of God.4. I have seen this happen since the 1980’s and I know that Camp Meeting has been used as a Campaign Stop for Many EC Members.

Just wondering how many went to the Florida Camp Meeting and what your thoughts were about it. I only went the 1st night because that was the only night I could go, but did watch the rest of it online. Toland J Morgan was the speaker on Tuesday night. He is the pastor of Fellowship Bible Baptist Church in Warner Robbins Ga. I’d never heard of him before, and I admit to being curious as to his selection to preach at Camp Meeting.There seemed to be good crowds the rest of the week, especially when Tim Hill was there on Thursday when they had to set out more chairs. Tim mentioned several times that they could “vote my hide out” but he wasn’t going to change his convictions. I thought that was interesting since that could well happen in a few weeks.I have to say that there was one annoying thing that happened each night, and that concerns the men who were chosen to receive the offering. I do realize this is someone’s “ten minutes of fame”, but why drag this out and make a production out of it? I found it very off-putting and bordering on WOF tactics. Just an honest opinion.So, did anyone else attend, and if so what was your experience like________________“Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why? Because none of those things makes someone a Christian.”

From the various camera angles the convention center seems to be about packed each night so far. I had to chuckle at Eric Petree last night when he called Jentezen Franklin the G.O.A.T. If he was hoping to get a bunch of Amens from that crowd for that statement he’s still waiting.???________________“Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why? Because none of those things makes someone a Christian.”

  1. A pastor told me Friday night’s crowd was the largest he had seen in years. A youth night/Jentezen Franklin combo would be hard to top.I watched each service and I have to give the nod to Jentezen for the best message and delivery________________“Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Our overseers bring in top-notch preaching, and Florida has perhaps the best music in all the Church of God…but the crowds are perhaps only half–if that much–of how it used to be.I recall times when the tabernacle–probably seating 4000-5000–was jammed, and hundreds of people were sitting in lawn chairs around the open-air tabernacle, worship right along with the rest of the folks.I don’t know how many times we would bellyache about the heat and wish we had air-conditioning. But when it finally came–in the form of a new tabernacle–it seems that there were other changes going on too.I don’t know if it’s the case, but along with some of the older folks who loved camp meeting beginning to die off, I have wondered if the fact that it WAS HOT had had the beneficial effect of ensuring that only (or mostly) those who really had a heart for worship showed up. Once everyone was able to attend, there were a few years that where it seemed almost alien to the camp meeting culture that had developed there over the decades.Along with the sno-cone stand being gone–which was huge during the hot times of camp meeting–even the singers who were on the docket EVERY CAMP MEETING, and who could reliably be counted on to bring it, were not as effective as they had once been. In time, the new tabernacle got its feet back under it. I have been unable to attend for some years (due to living in the extreme northern part of the state and being bivocational), but I have heard some good reports, including this year.

  4. I don’t know about FL, but it seems to me that camp meeting is more geared to pastors and not to laity. The services here start at 6:45, so if you work and/or live any distance from the campgrounds, there is no way you can make it. Plus with camp meeting being shortened to save finances, there are usually no weekend services when laity could make an effort to come (except maybe Sunday night.)   5. I’ve echoed this for years. Many camp meetings have become pastor renewal conferences. I’m not saying it’s not needful (it is!). But we have to engage the laity of the church as well. They are the heart and soul of the movement.

  6. I have to say there was a definite feeling that the services were geared towards those with ministry positions. I saw several posts on FB that confirmed my own observations. I guess that goes hand in hand with the general trend towards a more “professional ministry” in the Co________________“Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized.   7. I know that much of the issue is financial. For instance, Florida used to run it’s camp meeting through Sunday evening or so. But because so many ministers feel the need to get back to their churches, I’m sure it made it difficult in terms of the offering covering all the costs. Some years ago, they even had, if I recall right, T.D. Jakes, come for the Sunday evening–which made for an overflow attendance, but from people who didn’t come the rest of the week.
