Thats your level of expertise. Don’t pass that on to us.
The thing is, that while many of the Generals of faith in the past did have flawed character issues at times (Branham, McPherson, Dowie, to name but 3) it is also necessary to point out that they
Why would ya think such a thing, CA?
In the words of Dr. Ray H. Hughes (legitimate earned EdD from UT-K), let’s look at this thing seriatim:1. How were them in the Bible with unrepentant flawed character issues treated? Unrepentant false prophecies? Unrepentant immoral lives? So could these generals just continue
Could you give examples of the mistakes and ways he acted arrogant? I have read some about Wigglesworth and certainly he wasn’t perfect. But miracles that God reportedly did through him were amazing. From what I’ve read, I find it difficult to believe that God did not use him. Some of things he did and said I would not have approved of but I don’t recall any that I would consider herectical or against scripture. And I don’t recall reading about any great unrepentant sin of his.
Bro James:I appreciate what you posted here. Growing up in the church I was always mesmerized by anointed preachers/evangelists/singers, etc. As I got older, I got to know some of the people that mesmerized me and I found out that outside church they were like me . Their life wasn’t always always dedicated to prayer and bible reading and fasting and feeding the poor and taking care of widows……….I have even watched preachers who I knew were not called, start pastoring a church and do very well. This confused me because somewhere along the line I adopted the notion that God only selects the perfect. Boy was I wrong.I came to the conclusion that I was wrong when I realized, I had been called by God and I knew I was not perfect. I know my struggles and I know my failures but, I have led 1000 or more people to Christ, I have baptized many people, I have preached many sermons, taught many lessons, spent countless hours helping the poor/sick/needy/ widows/ children, I have planted a church, I pastor a strong church, I have helped start a church in El-Salvador, I have laid hands on people and they were healed……
Probably they were the contrary. God uses ordinary people Wayne and you’re right all of us have the potential to be a Wiggles worth or Bonnke. And as to undeniable results OTCP all you have to do is read the newspaper accounts of the day. George and Stephen Jeffries, Maria Woodworth Etter, John Dowie, Smith Wigglesworth, Oral Roperts and I could go on and on were written about by sceptics and cynics who could not deny the miracles they witnessed.
none of them were as strange as this guy whose raiment of camel’s hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.Just saying
Preach it bro.
The idea that we each have the potential to be a Wigglesworth or a Bonnke contradicts the Scriptures which say the Spirit distributes gifts as
You have to admit that you LOOK for dirt. Most or all of God’s Generals are dead, have been given their reward or judgment, but that doesn’t seem to be enough for you. You want to dredge up any bit of trash you can find….Oh, Ray H. Hughes–my favorite preacher!–sorry, he, too, has many things he will answer for. He was a tremendous man of God as a preacher and person…but as a LEADER he was unduly harsh, expressed far too little mercy in his dealings, was part of the successful attempt to undermine and eliminate Robert White from the General Overseer’s post, and on and on and on. In fact, in the 90’s, when I first started posting here, I was so taken aback by the negative comments about Hughes that I was his most ardent defender. In time, however, I came to understand that ALL OF US have shortcomings. For some, like Hughes, it might have been the way he wielded power. For others, it might have been alcoholism. For others, lust. Whatever the case, if anyone makes a careful search, they will find issues in ALL of our lives that we’d rather not be on our epitaphs.I understand that A.A. Allen had issues with drink. Yet a man of God that I respected highly, R.W. Schambach, has time and again told of the greatest miracle he had ever seen…which took place at an A.A. Allen meeting. Most of us revere King David. But if we look just the least bit, we find flaw after flaw after flaw…and yet He was a man after God’s own heart. Of course, to be fair, God didn’t have you there to advise Him on just how David should be viewed. You have to admit, OTCP, that you are one of those sad fellows that spends an inordinate amount of time looking for flaws and failures in men of God. If you don’t like where they got their doctorate, you feel the need to say something (although the issue is NOT the quality of the education, only the utility of the degree). And if Copeland or some other faith preacher says anything, you feel the need to ask, ask, ask if it really happened. I mean, I suppose you could call Bro. Lowery and ASK HIM, but, of course, that would not do the damage that insinuation and the such will do.Oh, and get this: Jonah prophesied that Nineveh was going to be overthrown. There was NO CONTINGENCY OFFERED. No if you do this, then I’ll not do it. Nope. Just flat out destruction. I know, I know; I can hear you now: FALSE PROPHET!If Copeland said what he said and was wrong…well, he was wrong. It wouldn’t be the first time he or other preachers were wrong. Every Sunday morning, throughout the Church of God, you can bet that there is plenty of things being said that are questionable, if not outright false. These men may be sincere…they are on a journey, they are in process. Like Apollos, they need for someone to come and instruct them in the way of the Lord more perfectly.I’ve said some things that I wouldn’t where I would like a do over. I just have to say my bad and move on. Have you ever preached ten minutes longer than you should have? You missed the Lord.On and on we could go on how WE have missed the Lord. And yet here we are, still serving the Lord, still on the job for Him. Copeland indeed may have missed it. Many or all of God’s Generals may have missed it. But that doesn’t mean that God through them on the ash heap, as you seem perfectly willing to do, trying to besmirch and smear those you don’t care for.I haven’t heard many Copeland sermons, but you know what, what I have heard was not some crazy serpent seed doctrine, but in many cases, was often stuff that we once espoused ourselves (you know, stuff like God will actually heal you if we pray in faith). Yes, he, I, and probably about everyone else has said some things that, in retrospect, didn’t line up with the scriptures perfectly. It might have been well intended, it might have been the extent of our understanding at the time, but it was still–again, in retrospect–not fully scriptural. It’s kind of like playing Grammar Nazi. I almost never play the game…until someone starts it. And then I pounce, bringing my ninja grammar skills to the fight. Like that, we can play little gotcha games when, if our own sermons and statements were examined, they, too, would leave much to be desired.
Now, Wyatt, son, why did ya have to rain on the woffie-promoters parade?
Re: OTCP…unbelievable
How does a man that just so thoroughly trashed Ray Hughes not get banned?Does Actscelerate allow this bashing for everyone – or just Ray Hughes? For shame Aaron. For shame Actscelerate.Aaron, turn in your COG license – if it hasn’t already been rescinded due to some other misdeed…which is highly likely.________________
Huh?
I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. John 14:12
Now, Wyatt, son, why did ya have to rain on the woffie-promoters parade? Some a these fellers remind me a ole Benny Boy Hinn seekin solace/wisdom/anointing at Kit Kat Kuhlman’s grave. The anointin comes from God, not somebodies grave.
