If a Church of God bishop’s wife is all decked out in make up and arrayed in costly jewelry what does that say about the bishop’s heart? What message is she sending to her denomination?

  1. no doubt about that. but i doubt it has much to do with how they dress. lack of support, study, marital problems etc may be a bigger issue than jewelry. however i know an elder minister who is very ‘old school” and so is his wife. but shes a gossip. probably less holy that the pastors wife who wears pants but is devout

  2. the Holiest couple that i ever met was my overseer and his wife, Bro. and Sis Hunt…always nice and helpful , encouraged my ministry and help me whenever i called with questions or problems

  3. The issue here is that many of us, including Charles Page, belonged to the Church of God when for some 100 years the Church of God took a very strong stand against the wearing of jewelry, even to the point where it was a test of membership. And there were many scripture references stated for such. Then all of a sudden thirty years ago, all of the Practical Teachings were done away. And those people who have joined the Church of God in the last thirty years do not have the faintest idea of what the Church of God was like. Dr Ray H Hughes’ book, “Church of God Distinctives” is certainly irrelevant in this modern day and no longer applies.

  4. i am very familiar with the practical commitments. some of them condemn things not condemned by scripture. you and i both know that many people enforced ideology as if it came from God’s mouth and that to me is wrong. no matter how nostalgic it may feel

  5. Agree modesty should be preached but lets let the holy Spirit Convict on the lines to be drawn. When people start creating rules to govern the noisy is when we’ve crossed the line. I’d the great had been changed it won’t take long for the Holy Spirit to convict then about cleavage etc

  6. The problem now is fulfillment of prophecy. No difference between the profane and Holy, We MUST maintain standards in keeping with scripture, or the Spirit of licentiousness will prevail until there remains no standards. God still DEMAND ‘holiness without which no man shall see God’. That said, we should be careful not to make a personal conviction an imposed doctrine. Keep scriptural requirements clear, and personal guidance identified accordingly.
