Just wondering? Several camp meeting speakers are making the rounds as they do every year and I wonder how their compensation is arrived at? Some are on a very tight schedule and might need a leased plane to get them to their appointments. Presumably all their expenses are paid including travel, hotels, etc., and then of course compensation; does that come from state funds, general funds or?
One time in Michigan our company brought in the late Paul Harvey as the featured speaker. I learned that they had sent a private jet to get him there and back and that his charge was $ 100.00 for each minute that he spoke. I am sure that some well thought out arrangement has been made for the camp meeting speakers. Anyone want to comment?
probably based on the friendship of the SO to the speaker if he is a CoG preacher. If he is a celebrity personality the celebrity sets the fee.
I had the honor of doing from two to five camp meetings Bible study each year for about ten years for a total of 52.. I never thought of the money and don’t remember whether my Eexpences were met or not. It was a high light of my life.
then you didn’t need the money. You had other sources of revenue.
What CoG people give in their offering aren’t told how the money is used. There are strong rules against disclosure. These rules are in opposition to IRS rules.
It seems to me when I was younger attending camp meeting that one of the night offerings went to the evening evangelist? Not sure if I am imagining that. I think today we just set an amount for speaker if he or she is not a celebrity and then they set the amount. Camp Meeting is a huge expense that pretty much falls back on the State Office. I have heard of Camp Meeting costing as much as $90,000.00 for a week. That was back when they had more money and even paid for full time evangelist and retired ministers to attend and I’m sure that included food served in the cafeteria afterward. I think they have cut that way back over the years. I know the group I am part of spends close to $20,000 for the week of Camp Meeting and that doesn’t include the food for lunches and dinner after services. Any way Camp Meeting is very expensive and most likely paid out of the State budget.
