Asbury put the brakes on theirs also, if I read correctly.Genuine revival is an inconvenient occurrence.It requires commitment and a desire to make whatever sacrifices necessary to accommodate it. Inconvenience to the public or did the adults ruin things?
The way I read it it’s going to run through Sunday, 2/26 (this coming Sunday) and then they will announce what’s next. I don’t think they are shutting it completely down. I’m sure there are a lot of challenges that come with a free-for-all invitation to whomever. There needs to be structure and accountability. It sounds like they are trying to do this in a way that continues to be respectful to what’s going on without completely shutting down the campus. It’s easy to criticize but up till now they have been very respectful of what is happening. But kids still need to attend class to get scholarships, etc. I think we should wait and see before we criticize what’s coming next when we don’t even understand what they’ve said so far.I’m not sure what’s happened so far would have been allowed before now. Maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt while they regroup and reorganize. For all the publicity these services have garnered, I have yet to read where spirituality mature Christians are offering to help disciple and mentor these young people. Without that, we all know what will happen once the excitement wears off________________“Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Why? Because none of those things makes someone a Christian.”
I would hope the LEE campus is full of spiritually mature professors and staff that are more than willing to do this. I assume that is going right now________________

I’m reminded of what Jesus said about John the Baptist in Matthew 11- What kind of man did you go into the wilderness to see. For those hungry for revival and the presences of the Lord, going can be a life changing experience. For those who go just to say they were there, to just observe so that they may render their judgement – they are the ones who should stay home. Revivals/unique moves of God, draw religious people like tourist to super bowl or worlds fair. Yet, I am reminded of an old saying which goes something like, the brighter light the more the bugs come out. Christianity in America is in desperate need of a young generation of committed ministry. Its a shame so many gray hairs are standing inline in front of them.
I read that 50,000 people came in from out of town. That’s a lot of people for a small town. Exactly. It caused the town to shut down. I totally get wanting to visit such a service, but this was for the students.
Hey Carolyn, who do you think is criticizing? My point is that this was a college campus and it became overrun by spectators so much so that the kids could not attend. I agree pretty much what you wrote. From what I’ve read about Asbury, leadership has been extremely cautious and protective of the move of God and of their students, which are both admirable. For a town of 6000 people to be overrun with 20,000 people, I think they’ve handed things very well. I don’t think the out of towners were curiosity seekers – they were genuinely hungry for the move of God that is happening there.Reading between the lines on Facebook, it sounds like some things got out of order at Lee and leadership stepped in to right the ship. We’ve got to trust they have the heart of their students foremost. I believe they sought the heart of God and did not make the decision lightly. And I did misunderstand…this past Monday was the last chapel service. I still don’t understand the wording about future services.It sounds like our students at Lee have been walked through this experience with wisdom and compassion. Let’s keep them in prayer as they enter the next phase of what God’s doing. Do we suppose that the Holy Ghost was unaware that a move of God might attract attention? It certainly did on the Day of Pentecost!I recall old Florida Camp Meetings where, the tabernacle being full, people were several rows deep sitting in lawn chair on the outskirts of the tabernacle–feeling the move of God along with everyone else.So a lot of people show up? That’s the kind of problem I would like to have! Do we suppose that the Holy Ghost can fall only on students who are sitting inside in seats? He can reach EVERYWHERE. And if He falls on the outside of the building, all the better!The Spirit will move as He will. At appropriate times and as needed, mature Christians step in to ensure that believers stay on course in sound doctrine, etc. But I would hope we would all do all we can to fan the flames.
The Acts 2occurrence drew a crowd, as 120 were baptized with the Holy Spirit. People were curious, and sought to understand the manifestations they witnessed. It was different, fresh, powerful, and polarizing. But Acts 2wasn’t to just draw a crowd to a room. It was to equip a people to go and take the gospel into the world.In Matthew 17, in response to Jesus’ transfiguration, Peter expressed his thought that they should build tabernacles to commemorate the event. But Jesus led them off the mountain, away from the place where they witnessed the powerful revelation. I’m not sure when we decided that revival/awakening was designed to draw, gather, and stay. It seems to me that it should be to reveal, change, equip, empower, and send. God is bigger than a university or their leadership. I don’t believe God was caught off guard by decisions made on how to navigate what was/is happening. But then I also don’t believe that such moves of God are designed to create “holy ground” places for everyone to run to, hang out at, and stay.I think we should instead be asking why God is moving on college campuses and not in so many congregations. Why there? Why not here? Those are questions we should be asking. I think we shouldn’t be running to and chasing after God moving there, but instead seeking God and making room for him to move where we are.

Peoples opinions…it’s not real revival because there’s no repentance. The band is gay. On and on and on. Is it revival? Not sure, I do believe the breath of God for lack of a better word has breathed on those colleges. I do know many church people did not like the hippies back then. Clearly God was in it.
