Powerful thoughts from Dr. Mark Rutland as he preached at the Tn. State convention this morning. He preached from the Lord’s prayer, not what you might think of as a camp meeting text. Yet he said; ” can you think of any better time in our history to pray, Lord deliver us from evil? We should all be praying that prayer over our families, over our churches and over our country.” Then he added a caveat of about 30 seconds ( gifted preachers often do this and it is usually the most memorable thing in a sermon )
He said that,” women are usually better at prayer and devotion than men, men as a rule can’t settle down and spend an hour in prayer, thus we have 53 years old men running around with a teenage mentality toward prayer and talking to God.” That reminded me of of Eric Hoffer’s observation, that we have perfect squirrels and other animals but man is ever unfinished.
I started reading some of Mark’s books nearly 40 years ago. His preaching was good then too!
