Assuming most posters here follow the practice of anointing the sick with oil before praying for them, I’m curious about how much oil you use. Personally, I use very little because I am aware that it could get on someone’s clothing and stain it. That and I never read where the Lord said to use a certain amount.On the other hand, I see some actually pour it into their hands and literally smear it on the recipient’s head. I’m not sure, but I think they think they are Samuel anointing David all over again!Which method is correct, and which do you use________________“Hell will be filled with people that didn’t cuss, didn’t drink, and may even have been baptized. Most of my life I saw only a drop or so applied to the ministers finger and a touch on the forehead. Bro James mentioned the sign of the cross also is marked on the forehead. I have noticed that in the last 20 years or so. I agree there is nothing wrong with the sign of the cross but unnecessary, in my opinion. I smile when I think back over my years. I thought the only use for olive oil was to anoint. I had no idea anyone would cook with that rancid stuff. Agreed When I saw my wife cooking with the stuff I thought, ‘what on earth are you doing? That stuff stinks!’But when I checked it I couldn’t detect the same old worn out, stale, ancient, musky tired olive oil straight from Jerusalem itself that we had in the church all these years.Of course it would be nice to throw the old stuff out once in a while & get the nice oil like BJ mentioned.Little dab on the finger & I usually make a cross on the forehead out of respect for my Savior …but I know its not required________________Empty nest syndrome is for the birds!Email me at: [email protected] planters are focused on just one thing …introducing people to Jesus!

Several weeks ago, I was with a Christian friend of mine and I wanted her to pray for me and anoint me with oil. She does not attend a Pentecostal church and would probably characterize herself as Reformed. I told her I wanted her to anoint me with oil and pray for me. She said, I don’t have any oil. I have some Chapstick. Then she exclaimed, I DO have oil. I have lavender oil and peppermint oil in the car! I replied, You were predestined to have it.So when we got back to her car, she took a little of the lavender oil, anointed my forehead and prayed for me.

Years ago when we were traveling on the road doing children’s ministry, we were trying to leave town to go do a youth camp. We hadn’t gotten far and the motorhome we were using died. Would not start. My husband went off on foot to try to get help or get us towed. While he was gone, I got out the Wesson oil and anointed the motorhome and prayed over it.
