I saw that Free Chapel is opening a church in Buford. They have one in Gwinett Cty, one in Spartenburg SC, one in Southern Ca, now one in Buford.I heard that Jentzen preaches at the Gainsville church and flies to S. Ca to preach there.But what are they doing at the other locations. Do they have a pastor that preaches there or do they broadcast via a large screen.My brother attends a church that has multiple locations. Some times the have the lead pastor broadcasting on a giant screen from another location.Jentzen is one of my favorites but I don’t think I would be comfortable attending a church where the pastor is preaching from another location. Yes he flies here every Sunday afternoon & does the evening service at their Irvine campus on Jamboree Rd. Jentzen was flying on commercial flights. His wife begin to worry about his schedule. He preached at Gainsville Ga. then drove or was driven to the Atlanta airport. Rush, rush, rush.One of his family members told me that Charles Stanley phoned him and offered let him use his private jet. The last I heard (about 3 years ago) he was still using Stanleys jet. I think one of the underlying issues here is the assumption that we are to go to church and hear our leader preach a sermon. I don’t really see this idea taught in the New Testament. Hebrews 10:24-25and I Corinthians 14:26 and the surrounding verses come to mind.My Dad goes to the Gainseville Free Chapel. He said at one of the other churches they had technology where it looked or felt like Jentzen Franklin was up front preaching________________
Cojak, from the time stamp on your post it looks like you might have stayed up all night trying to figure it out.It doesn’t make sense to me either. Part of it goes to what Link is saying about going to church to hear someone preach a sermon. In my way of thinking, a person could preach at 2 churches on opposite coasts each week, but he can’t really PASTOR long distance. The other thing goes to stewardship. It just would make more sense to me make better use of folks’ tithes than jetting across the country each week.

In a similar vein, our small local church has paid the traveling expenses of evangelists and missionaries who have come to minister here. Many times that has included a round-trip plane ticket.
I also had the impression that the church needed someone with name recognition that would draw people in as Floyd Lawhon had done. If it works for them, I say, Go for it!Many years ago, I used to attend a small church on Sunday nights that used a satellite feed of a well known preacher. It seemed to work for them. It provided good preaching but fellowship on a local level. It was different, but sometimes different appeals to some folks.From what I can tell of the info online for JF, there are local networks set up for fellowship, kids ministry, teen/college, hospital visitation, funerals, weddings, etc., so that local church needs are met.A good friend of mine is on the worship team of a satellite church for Ron Carpenter’s church in Raleigh. They seem to have a thriving church there that is doing great things for the Lord. It’s different, but maybe we need some of that to reach the harvest in this day and age. I have some things I could say about the way the whole thing was handled but it’s all water under the bridge at this point & there is no need to re-hash all the events that brought an end to the history of Irvine’s Jamboree Rd. CoG now known as Irvine Free Chapel.I’m not a fan of how it all went down but I’m not against J. Franklin either. I don’t know the man personally but I have friends who do know him & they speak highly of him so I’m sure he’s a great guy. What I have been told is that Bro. Franklin’s church in Irvine (which runs in the thousands) benefits from the fact that he does his taping at TBN for his TV program & therefore his personal ministry covers the cost of the travel since he was already making the trip every week prior to being appointed pastor at Jamboree. So if my source is good, & I know it is, the churches are not underwriting his travel expense, his truck would have been worn out by now & I do believe he benefits from the use of a jet (his or a borrowed model I don’t know). I asked one of his key staff about the jet one time & he said Bro. Franklin had not bought one yet. At one time it was shared with me that the Irvine campus was the single most valuable asset to the CoG outside of the Lee U. campus & that info came from a reliable source in Cleveland. I’m sure the property is still valued in the 10’s of millions & it looks awesome all the time, very well cared for. The local staff conduct the primary services during the week & Bro. Franklin preaches there most Sunday evenings to a packed out house. In all honesty they need a much larger facility in order to accommodate the crowds but I don’t know much about that pursuit, at least none I want to discuss here.F.C. Irvine is the largest CoG congregation (if one could call them that) on the West Coast & it would be great if the biggest would always lead by example.If you have concerns regarding this church I will entertain questions but only through PM. Again, I have nothing negative to say about the church, it’s leadership or it’s pastor.
