  1. I heard it was so we would blend in the community more… To me I like it when church of God is left in the name…. I also like it when the pastor wears a suit… Again I was told this is to make the pastor more accessible…

  2. I also wish we still sang sometimes out of the red hymnal… Most new Christians only know Amazing not other great praise songs in the red hymnal.. Sad the kids today don’t get to cut their spiritual teeth on older songs at least once a month..

  3. The CoG is supposed to either use the words Church of God, or to use the logo.
    Whether they do or not depends on the church and state office.
    The name changes must be approved by;
    The local congregation
    The state council
    The international offices.

  4. Since when did the TRUE GOSPEL and the congregation of the first born need any such name? And where did men receive the authority to call a congregation of true believers this or that?

    This congregation (church) name thing came along in the 1st century when congregations identified with the person who planted the “church” rather than the LORD JESUS CHRIST who gave HIS life for it. They believed that for a church to be “authentic” it had to be planted by an apostle, ie, St Paul’s, or whatever. What’s wrong with this picture?

    There is only ONE BODY. HIS BODY. Where is the concern that folks may belong to a “church” (by any name you choose) and yet not belong to HIS body?

  5. You can have a profession of faith in Christ and not be in the fold of the sanctified saints. absolutely!

  6. My belief is that if you make a profession of faith in Christ you are a part of his body, you are saved but not yet sanctified nor truly filled with the Holy Ghost.

    If you are truly sanctified you will belong to a local body of organized believers and it is of little importance what’s the name of the local believing community. The name does need to indicate a local identity. Church of God at Corinth, Church of Christ at Corinth, Corinthian Saints of God, Corinth Assembly of God, People need to know there is a church in Corinth.

  7. Sadly to say, there has been many posts in this forum with only one design/purpose in mind — to try to “taint” the name “Church of God”! What a shame! I feel sorry for those doing the criticizing; because they are, obviously, not blessed in their soul for doing it!
