Before anyone misunderstands what I’m about to say, let me state for the record I’m not opposed to building bridges or holding hands and walking across them. I’m much more in favor of bridges than I am fences.However, I agree with Sir Charles Barkley who has said that he believes that the vast majority of people from all races get along just fine. It’s the folks on the fringes that keep things stirred up.I firmly believe that the greatest civil rights issue of our day is the epidemic of black-on-black violent crime. And I’m curious what is being done to address that issue. The latest statistics tell us that homicide is now the leading cause of death among black men ages 18-55, about 7,500 a year (roughly 2,000 more than white men in the same age group). And almost 90% of those murders are committed by other black men. So the greatest threat to young black men in America today is not white supremecy. It’s not white law enforcement officers. It’s not neo-nazis or white nationalists. Every week an average of 130 young black men are murdered by other other black men.Stephen A.
