  1. It’s about like playing pool was many years ago: It wasn’t a sin, but is carried the stigma of worldliness, which would damage one’s testimony. If by gambling, you mean spending thousands of dollars on a gambling addiction, then of course it’s wrong. If by gambling you mean buying the occasional lottery ticket (whose jackpot out to exceed $700 million, else it’s not even worth one’s time to play), that’s no more a sin that buying a Snickers candy bar with your discretionary income. Can it hurt your testimony? YES. IT. CAN. So that right there is the real reason not to gamble. But it’s not because of the occasional lottery ticket purchase.

  2. Maybe some of the people who buy tickets do so because they really want to support education, so they suppress the urge to buy a candy bar and donate the money to the government by buying a ticket.

  3. Formica 3:6 Last I heard. But we didn’t like ’em soldiers casting lots (Drawing the highest card)But Christians could do it because they cast lots to see who would serve at times.it is a slippery slope that like Alcoholism it grabs some folks. My neighbor In NC is a recovering alcoholic and has replaced it with gambling. Since we have allowed Casinos in NC on the reservations here. He no longer comes home drunk, but on weekends he comes home broke…. That is the truth and he agrees. But it is sorta like Dancing could lead to gambling. ________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

  4. Cojak, the old saying I heard was not that dancing could lead to gambling. It was that the Methodist were against having sex standing up because it could lead to dancing. You can’t explain the holiness mindset. As to gambling, it seems those who can least afford it gamble the most. As said, gambling, like the lottery, is a tax willingly paid by poor people. It should be pointed out that centers of gambling (like Las Vegas) also promote other vices like drinking and adult entertainment, including legal prostitution. While we point to the selection of Matthias as some form of gambling, in fact it was voting on preselected leaders with certain qualifications. It is incongruent to compare the Acts chapter 1 church voting with the soldiers gambling for the garment of Jesus, which they stole from the man they had beaten and wiped early that morning, nailed to the cross (along with two others) and engaged in both breaking legs or thrusting a spear in the side of those on the crosses to make sure they were dead. Interesting thought, if you gamble with the wrong people, you too could have your legs broken.

  5. Mat said:Interesting thought, if you gamble with the wrong people, you too could have your legs broken. Shocked Shocked Shocked………True dat my friend!________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
