Some thoughts about people who are abused by Church of God Administrative Bishops (there are abusing ordained ministers as well)
One of the things that hurt victims of abuse is the message of supposed easy sought forgiveness of the abuser. The words “get-over-it” are painful when the victim wants to get on with her/his life.
Often in the impatient counsel offered there is the blame shift from the accused to the accuser. “You may have brought it on yourself!” The fact that you can’t move on is their hint that maybe you are resisting forgiveness, harboring hurts and even hatred.
The weight of the healing process is on the “trust in the Lord” of the accuser/victim.
What are your thoughts?
Sorta like an abusive spouse. They may just call it dirty laundry or say I’m sorry, let’s not mention it again, and leave the other still hurting.
I agree. My wife and I suffered abuse from multiple leaders in the COG and were then told that the COG did not need us or want us when I dared to complain. I was one of thousands who felt forced to leave the COG if I ever wanted to be involved in ministry. Thank God this was the best thing that could have happened to me.
