Which part of it is total garbage? His polling sample was 1800 registered voters. And you know most Trump supporters are resisting authoritarianism, how?He is factually telling you what characteristics in the polling data were statistically significant.
As for the four questions in his poll about child rearing, I most probably would poll as authoritarian as well; only 1 of the 4 questions used to determine authoritarianism (well-behaved versus considerate) would I
The whole article. I’m back and forth on him, but his biggest appeal to me is that he is a rejection of the authority of the establishment. I lean libertarian and reject most government authority, so I would rather have Rand Paul as president if he were more than a shadow of his father, since he’s not my first choice is Ted Cruz who has proven to buck the authority of his lying rat infested party bosses right to their faces. Next is Trump. I put him after Cruz ONLY because he is unproven in his rebellion against the established authority.
But WHY do you say the article is garbage? Can you give a specific reason other than the anecdotal evidence that I’m not an authoritarian, and I like Trump; therefore the whole article is balderdash.
But WHY do you say the article is garbage? Can you give a specific reason other than the anecdotal evidence that I’m not an authoritarian, and I like Trump; therefore the whole article is balderdash. When you claim not to be authoritarian, how would you honestly respond to the 4 child-rearing questions mentioned in the poll? I frankly don’t think the poll makes any sense at all. Both answers are what I expect in all four at different times as appropriate. They would have to get to specific scenarios before I would pick between them. For instance; with respect or independent, I expect them to respect but stand firm in conviction, sounds like they confuse independence from man with independence from God ???Obedience or self-reliant, obedient to God and parents, self-reliant when it comes to life and relationship to governmentWell-behaved or considerate? – Really? you can’t be both? Have I been wrong all of these years?well-mannered or curious? – Again both, when appropriate.Maybe the author had a certain age-group of children in mind when asking these question? Mine are grown, maybe they are thinking in terms of 5-year-olds.
The guy who wrote the article and did the poll did not come up with the questions. Those are questions which political scientists have used since 1992. (And obviously I don’t know exactly how the questions are worded on the questionnaire.)
I just think there are some assumptions behind those questions that are invalid. I know that I am not authoritarian (to a fault unfortunately). Yet, I think the support I see for Trump is based on rebellion to a system that expects unconditional support. To me that is authoritarianism, maybe I have it wrong.
I READ! When I read I guess I read into an article what I want to, but it seems to me all the comments here are opposite of what I got from the article. It is Trumps (appeared) AUTHORITY, that seems to impress his followers.I WILL DO THIS!I CAN DO THIS!HE IS AN IDIOT, STUPID, ETC.I NEGOTIATE!I WILL MAKE THEM PAY!His ability to ‘OVER_AUTHORITY’ the establishment. Most folk are followers, we respect the person who COMMANDS, FIXES OR CHANGES (even if just a promise), it sounds like fact. We have a president who so impressed the NOBEL committee with his AUTHORITY TO STOP ALL WARS, that they believed it and awarded him a Peace Prize.Folks like it when some one has the ‘audacity’ to challenge with Authority!I probably missed it, but that is how I see the article. IMHO________________Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
Sorry Bonnie.Just appears that someone floated something out there to try to get Trump supporters to rethink their position because it makes them look authoritarian.I don’t buy it.Follow the trail back – Jeb or Hillary set up the whole thing.Very low energy effort on their part.Poorly done________________
Total garbage. Authoritarianism is the thing most Trump supporters are resisting. I’m undecided, personally, on who to vote for________________
I read the article and there may be some merit to it.However, I took the test and scored high on the Authoritarian scale.

The questions are from the F-scale test, which has its critics. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-scale_(personality_test)#Criticisms
