I'm reminded in Mark 5of a man who the bible said made his dwelling among the tombs. This man was living, walking and breathing but living with dead things. He was dead and didn't even know it.It's my opinion that the church of God is dead and doesn't know it. In my state alone 4 of the biggest church's and best pastors have pulled out of the COG. Talented and gifted men and women are leaving and not looking back. As one friend said to me it's not that I don't like the cog but I have received more information and revelation in one conference with my new covering than I have in a life time of cog meetings. Our meetings are old and tired. The information we are getting is dated and even the states and churches that look fresh are still beating a dead horse. Our structure doesn't allow for growth. Watch at this GA some of the best pastors will be pulled from their churches for executive positions. Their success has taught them that real success is to move up. Over the years it has over taken great pastors like Culpepper and Walker. Great pastors who are pulled out of their local church by a church that claims that the local church is the most powerful force in the world but proves other wise year after year. I know there has been exceptions to this rule with great men like Laron Livingston refusing to leave his post but for the most part we have it all wrong. So at this GA assembly the cog will do things that look like life. You will hear good singing, preaching and business will be done. Money will be received and spent. But like that man in mark 5I have to wonder if we are dead and don't even know it.

For the one feller to tell you that he got more revelation/information in one conference than in a lifetime of COG meetings is horse-laughable.

I had to pause when I read that, too. The feller seems enamored of his new covering, but

Our Brother Leroy has made a good case for what is happening and has been happening in the COG for MANY years. The ladder climbing has been taught and practiced in the COG all my life. WE have not learned that a great preacher and pastor is not the answer to administration. I am sorry that some picked up on what one man said to LRB and skipped the fact that WE HAVE DEFINITELY moved our 'talent' up a ladder using the 'Peter Principal' (in a way) and promoted them past their gifted position, a loving pastor.I read the post with an open mind. I think LRB does have some valid points. I take what that Brother said about 'so much more better info, etc' with a grain of salt because it is NEW to him, but you may be over looking the fact that he must have been a talented COG pastor who felt a different direction was needed.

Cojak, I do not know what is going on in the Church of God at large. My local congregation has done well. It started in our pastor's living room with just the pastor's family about 22 years ago. We now have a very loving congregation of about 150 people, a gym in addition to a beautiful facility for the sanctuary and classrooms. The same man has pastored the church these 22 years. For the last 9 years or so, we've supported a church in Ecuador and have sent a missions team each summer. (And our praise team has the world's most wonderful guitar player. )

True dat (about the guitar player) I have seen videos of the dudes. LOLTrue, facts about national politics, and many do not even show a connection to the national church. Great testimony about the church. There is a lot to say about 'lack of term limits' for pastors. With Long term, long range plans work.In a situation where 'someone' spotted your pastor and said he needs a 'promotion' he would be offered a deal he could not refuse and leave even when he was doing an outstanding job.I am sorry I am rambling, but I hope I have made a little sense.U B sweet Bonnie lady Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/

Out here in the west I hear this kind of sentiment all the time. We've been saying this for years but I guess nobody cares until it's too late & the ship is listing. I for one would love to see the church go national Empty nest syndrome is for the birds!Email me at: [email protected] planters are focused on just one thing ...introducing people to Jesus!
