Your question about whether pastors moving every few years is a contributor to PK's backsliding, is an excellent one. It caused me to think over how I grew up. Mom and Dad pastored in the Church of God of Prophecy. At that time, there was a general consensus that it was good for pastors to move often. If ya stayed more than two years, people stopped appreciating you. Mom and Dad pastored: Clover, VA, Cody, VA, County Line (near Bassett, VA), Brookneal, VA, Elizabethton, TN, Spring Valley, CA (near San Diego),Farmersville, CA, Kerman, CA, Turlock, CA, Petaluma, CA, Santa Rosa, CA and finally, Sacramento, CA.In addition, Dad served four years as State Overseer of Nevada. We lived in Boulder City, NV (seven miles from Hoover Dam) and about 19 miles from Las Vegas. Dad missed pastoring and asked if he could pastor instead of continuing as an overseer. So, all together, he and Mom pastored 12 different churches and lived in 13 different places. I attended four different Elementary Schools and three different High Schools.Holy Cow! No wonder I have turned out to be one of the most normal people on the planet .HOWEVER, Mom and Dad had six children, four boys and two girls. I'm the oldest of six. And today? It really is amazing that all six of we children are saved, the girls are sanctified and I am every now and then. All of us are Spirit-filled with the evidence of Speaking In Tongues, and all of us are involved in church. We four boys are all God-called ministers.WHAT AN INCREDIBLE Legacy for Mom and Dad. I once asked Dad what he and Mom did that all of we children are following the Lord. He got a puzzeled look on his face and said, I don't know, except we tried to live our faith in front of you, and really worked at keeping you connected to church. We attempted to be sure that church, locally and national, became your circle of activities.Possibly moving so much, kept us from becoming part of secular society other than attending school. The church; revivals, State conventions, District conventions, Youth Camps, all became the focus of our life. That is where we developed friends, and in every case, that is where we met the person we married. Not now, but at the time, the Church of God of Prophecy taught that it was the Body of Christ Exclusive. Dedication to church and knowledge of the Church of God of Prophecy story, was very much part of our growing up. It built into us a sense that we were part of something very important.Oddly enough, though all of we children are actively following the Lord Jesus, and are Spirit-filled, none of us are involved the Church of God of Propehcy. Oh, such fond memories we have of our growing up there, and we have fond and loving fellowship with all of our friends there. But we are working for the Lord in other churches. Thanks again for your post. It send my mind on a tour of good memories. Blessings.Doyl

Doyle,I pray that my wife and I are raising my children the same as your parents. I ask almost constantly if they still like church and so far the answers are always yes. My wife was a PK but I was not(not even close). Her stories have made me want to raise my children to love God and church. So far, only a couple bumps but they are all in church, play music, teach, participate and for the most part are loved by all our members. I don't allow anyone to hold them to a higher standard and I do my best not to as well. They still feel the pressure of being a PK but I'm not sure I can prevent that. They do get really mad when they hear of someone being mean to their papa. My 6'3 280 pound mild mannered full ride college student can get a little rough when church people start coming down on papa but its my 16 year old boy and especially my 15 year old girl that they don't want to mess with Love your story and so far, we are headed down the same path.
