I view this last book of the bible much differently now than when I first became a Christian. Growing up, I was always taught that this was basically a timeline for future events. I watched preachers make complicated flowcharts detailing everything in the exact sequence things would occur. I must say that now as an older man, my eschatology is much less rigid and defined. I still believe in the 2nd coming of Christ, but I'm much less confident about espousing a very narrowly defined timeline or sequence of events. As it pertains to Revelation in particular, I find the book much more as an encouragement to Christians suffering in the first century. Which brings me to my next and final point:When it comes to Revelation or any apocalyptic writing, it's very easy to approach the text with an egocentric interpretation. In other words, ignoring the original recipients of the message and interpreting as if it were written to Western Christians living in 2016. Most certainly it

Good point. Hence, it is called the Revelation of Jesus Christ. If I had a nickel for every time I heard someone call it the book of revelations

I was reading in Revelation this morning and a couple of things hit me....First, the revelation was given to Jesus by GOD...which makes the whole trinity issue even murkier.Second, the book says it is about things which must SHORTLY come to pass. I know the whole thousand years is as a day notion, but might it be that at least some of these things have already come to pass?

I agree Aaron. In my initial post, I mentioned the whole egocentric interpretation conundrum. The bible deliberately leaves ambiguity at times so that all generations in all times may glean comfort and edification from the scriptures (hence, we can all relate to Paul's thorn in the flesheven though we may not have the same

I smiled at the original post. The charts, the Revelations experts, and personal ideas added to the mystery and confusions in the pew.The book of Revelation is not a joke, but has certainly with its mystery, lent itself to Assured sounding folk to confuse the Christian in the pew. Always, when the experts and learned folk speak contradictory views, we in the pew leave more confused.I accept the Revelations to John as the inspired Word of God, When I am blessed by its words I accept that. When I am confused by some parts, I accept that as ' I evidently do not need to know that just now. I like the attitude of the OP Some facts but mostly just my [email protected]/
