We have a tough time with this, many humans that is. We can't seem to separate 'Religious Law' (i.e. the pork, work thing), man's law and our concept of Moral Laws.Most of us think that Breaking the BIG TEN is still sin, well most of them! For some reason we humans NEED A LIST. We might not like the list from the 40-50's era, but we still make a list. And just like Santa, we check it twice when we SEE some one who is OBVIOUSLY sinning (smoking, drinking, 'pigging-out' or SPEEDING). Okay, that is Obviously sinning according to 'our list!'You got a list, I got a list, All God's chillin got a list. It is sort of a shame, I pray that He understands us all. Does He have a LIST? Exactly. For example, we see Paul speaking of the moral law and its effect of bringing the knowledge of sin and that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. (Romans 3:19-20).Yet in Galatians, Paul is obviously addressing the ceremonial law and those Gentile Christians who were being duped into trying to add works to grace by observing it

In his Galatians 2confrontation with Peter, you might argue he is talking about the ceremonial law saying we don't have to live like a Jew. But it his Galatians 3explanation of the law that was added 430 years after Abraham and being our tutor to lead us to Christ this argument is weaker. And in Galatians 4, his analogy of Hagar to Mount Sinai clearly includes the moral law in that which needs to be cast out as an attempt to produce something born of the flesh. In Romans 7:6-10, Paul clearly says we have been released from the law that say thou shalt not covet. This is the moral law.Back to the OP. Isn't sin violating the terms of your covenant?If righteousness is being as you ought to be and sin is missing the mark, couldn't you take that to simply mean righteousness is keeping covenant and sin is breaking covenant?For OT Jews that would mean sin was breaking and of the 614 laws made them unrighteous and brought a curse on them, keeping them all made them righteous and brought a blessing.For NT Christians, the righteous man lives by faith and whatever is not of faith is sin I'm not saved because I'm good.
