I posted a thread that remained a sticky for a while regarding church growth. Contrary to popular belief, having an effective senior's ministry is a vital part of a healthy church. Many of the threads I read seem to indicate an undertone of scorn for the senior adults in their congregation. They are typically parodied as rigid, change-resistant, redback-singing, impediments to church growth. The fact is that many of these senior adults have labored and given above and beyond their means to pay the church's bills over decades of time. Our church has all ages but we have a large segment of our church who fit into that category. Sure, there are some who hate change or anything modern, but the majority of them are loving people who want to see their church grow. So yes, we do incorporate some of the old hymns into our music program, and we most assuredly have seniors in leadership.
