Then why are so many of our churches built without baptisteries

We remodeled ours awhile back to have a built-in baptistry. Couldn't agree with you more.In the past, for us, baptism was something we did at someone's pool when it was warm out. Not many would come. Then, after we built the baptistry, we started having baptisms regularly after service. Still, not many would stay.

Maybe they read the Didache and prefer to use the creek. Around here, people use the ocean. I baptized someone at the beach on New Year's day

Maybe the reason so many of our churches lack baptistries is because the vision was for a number in the sanctuary rather than discipleship.Just thinking out lou

Baptistries are also expensive.I saw a portable baptistery that looked like it was made out of pipe and some sort of cloth or flexible plastic material that a Seafarers ministry uses to baptize fishermen at the local international port they use

I don't think an empty baptistry disciples that many people, unless of course you seat them inside the baptistry for Sunday School classes.I would not construct a baptistry in a new building. Far easier, and cheaper, to use rivers and the ocean or, as another poster mentioned, to wheel in a portable tank Senior Pastor, Solid Rock Church, DroghedaNational Overseer, Church of God, IrelandExecutive Director, Evangelical Alliance Irelandhttp://eaiseanchai.wordpress.com/
