Your point is well taken, Sheik, an agree with ya. Its a shame so many folk don't know that it is solely for those who died while serving our country.

Or have someone actually in uniform, it's all too easy to distance yourself from the harm caused by war. We drove to Iowa to decorate my father in laws grave. He was a medic with the big red one during WW2. He earned six bronze stars and was proud to serve. We often wondered how many made it through the war because of his brave actions

www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQV55UkEFs0Powerful video. My father was in the second wave at Omaha Beach and went all across France with Patton and into the Battle of the Bulge. He survived and stayed in the Army another 25 years and I was raised on Army bases all over the world and we all owe a great debt to people like my father and others who sacrificed so much for us to be free to worship God in Spirit and Truth. While we had a powerful, wonderful service Sunday - we watched this video and acknowledged the service members former and current in our midst and prayed for our country.

Post subject:  Mark Ledbetter: I certainly empathize with your thoughts/feelings,

and recognize Veterans' Day is a day to remember the men and women survivors of war.Yet, I posted each day on Facebook a picture of a family member who, while they did not die in service, they served. As a survivor you know the atrocities of war, as does my son who survived two tours in Afghanistan as a Marine. My reason for posting is because, especially from my son's experience, each man and woman involved in conflict and survives actually leaves a part of themselves on the battlefield. Collectively they gave their lives and I honor their sacrifice - especially Vietnam vets.My brother-in-law survived Nam but years later he fell victim to Agent Orange. He came home and you didn't just wake him up, you gently work him up. He slept with the lights on and a gun in the corner. One night he and his buddy swapped foxholes and a mortar hit where he would have been and he lost his buddy. And, you are correct: It isn't a three day weekend. Perhaps it should be treated like Veteran's Day and observed by the calendar rather than make it part of a weekend celebration of cookouts and such. Please accept a much deserved but delayed expression of appreciation for your service.[I had a 4-H deferment and although still eligible to be called up, never was. Sorry I've been ill so I haven't been online. I was drafted in 1968. I was living w my mom at the time near Aberdeen NC. Went to Fort Bragg for basic and hopped a plane to Bien Hoa. Thankfully I came home in 1969. I wish I could say that of all my buddies. That was a tough time. Especially coming home and having people resent you for fighting in a war you didn't choose to fight. But I don't regret serving this country one bit. And I appreciate all the kind words. I'm not sure why I got all irritable and posted this rant. Sometimes I can be a grumpy old fellow. No offense intended to anyone. As many of you have stated, it's always appropriate to thank a Vet.
