I agree 100% he was one of the best comics of the century. He was witty and funny.We are about the same age. He a comic and famous. I was a builder and successful. I want to go back to building after this $$$$$$$ experience with the motor home, but mama says I am too old.I am afraid my wife is gonna win. And I am afraid, like OJ , Bill’s rep is shot. He will always have a base, but the media will haunt him for the rest of his life, even if he finds Jesus and starts a church. Consider that even if you die with a good reputation, it may be that 150 years in the future, your life/activities will be looked upon as deeply hateful and vile (see the Confederate memorials).It may also be that, 100 years in the future, Cosby will be looked upon more favorably. Eventually, this whole approach of tarnishing people for their flaws (although Cosby’s issues went far beyond flaws) is going to catch up to everyone. We will eventually realize that we are allowing idiots who thrive on outrage to define America for us. And if we keep it up, EVENTUALLY, they are going to take on the wrong legacy…and everyone else will rise up and condemn them for their foolishness. But by then most of the damage will be done, I suppose.
While I agree this situation is indeed sad, tragedy carries with it the connotation of being something outside of one’s control or at least some chain of events that unfolded based on missed opportunity or misunderstanding.This man sexually assaulted this woman and likely many others. The fall from grace is indeed sad, but it is of his own making. He was famous enough to have many women if he so chose. He was rich enough to buy them if he wanted. But he chose instead to drug and assault and that is only a tragedy for the victims________________

I understand your point – but my understanding of Shakesperian tragedy is a flaw that is the ultimate undoing of an otherwise exemplary hero. If the hero had simply gotten control of the one thing – then the downfall could have been avoided. I think Cosby fits in that paradigm. But I am open to correction as I was not a Humanities scholar________________

you guys don’t get it do you? for years while he was doing those good things in public, he was privately assaulting women sexually. And he got away with it for the majority of his adult life. It was a rhetorical question. Of course there is no way to regain the reputation – that he in fact did have at one time. He should have heeded the Bible – Be sure your sins will find you out. No amount of good deeds kept him from jail or disgrace________________

There is also ‘grace’ in the public’s eye. April May, why are you lashing out at all these posters, making a big deal out of every turn of phrase? I don’t see anyone defending Bill Cosby. I was disappointed to hear the allegations when they first came out because Cosby held a unique role as a black role model and a role model for what could be done for wholesome TV, but then all these women came forward with these horrific allegations about him. I had looked up Cosby’s religion, but I don’t think he was a Christian, but I remember thinking, before the allegations came out, while watching an old re-run of Fat Albert of how unusual it was to have a kid’s cartoon on TV these days that tries to teach values and of how Cosby served as a role model to so many black kids. It’s disappointing, but, yeah, those women’s experience must have been horrifying and scarring. No one is defending him.
